Best '70s Williams Score: Round One (VERSION #2)
batmanand replied to robthehand's topic in General Discussion
Let the "grassroots" spoiler tactics begin... -
Mr. Breathmask speaks the truth.
-
Also, that beautiful, utterly unique rendition of the Family Theme when Harry is celebrating his birthday in the random shed-on-an-island at the beginning of the film. One of the most poignant bits of music in the whole film, IMO.
-
The most horrible CGI in a mainstream film...

Hedwig flying off Harry's arm in HP:PS is poor. Also, the unrealistically loud wing beating SFX ruins one of the best bits of music in the whole film! -
Last Crusade, but it is the worst of an extraordinary buunch of scores.
-
I'll go with Anakin's Dark Deeds then.
-
I have said it before, and I will say it again. Zimmer has written three good scores in his life: The Lion King, Gladiator and Hannibal. It is just a shame about the rest of them. Arnold is one of my favourite composers at the moment. Stargate has levels of thematic richness and glorious "wow!" moments that I thought only JW could come up with.

Empire has Exutate Justi (or however it is spelt). An outstanding piece of music. Witches does not have that. But I agree with Stefan. After those two, that is when the real tough decisions have to be made.

As far as I know, the Concert Version of Nimbus 2000 is officially unreleased except for this CD.

Also, if it was "just" Munich that denied Memoirs its moment of glory, what about last year? I think that Brokeback won fair and square. And that reflects VERY badly upon the Academy. -
The piano crashes signalled to me that it was not tracked.

Those tracks that never fail to give you goose bumps

Immolation (With our lives we give life) from SL. When the choir comes in, I defy anyone not to feel something. -
WIlliams will never win another Oscar

And don't forget to have a cheesy pop song somewhere on the album... -
Woman in middle: "John, this is Gustavo Santaolalla" Williams: "Nice shirt. Shame about the style and colour, though..."

The Official ESB was voted off Investigation Thread.
batmanand replied to JoeinAR's topic in General Discussion
I think your reasoning sucks; just because there is favourite in a race doesn't mean we should vote it off to create a "more interesting" contest. Maybe it is the favourite cos it is the best? In which case why deny it its moment of glory? And before you say "oh well it was guarenteed to win, we might as well not have run the poll" that is silly. ESB won a "which is the best JW" score which is a totally different question to "ESB or ET?". What is the point in polls if people do not contribute to them in good faith? -

Does this now mean that Brokeback has lost Best Picture (hence picking up this as a "consolation")? -

Worst score decision ever? I am thinking at least one of the worst. -

Crap. -
Brokeback thoroughly deserves to win. By far the best film of the year; probably the decade.
-
The Battle of Hoth, according to the linear notes, had a fairly formindable orchestral set-up.
-
Aren't you glad Williams scored Geisha instead of Potter?
batmanand replied to Ollie's topic in General Discussion
Assuming he couldn't do both, it would have taken a very, very special score to make me happy he didn't do HP. Fortunately, he produced it. Unfortunately, Doyle has ruined the HP scoring franchise. -
Sorry double post...
-
I would vote for ROTS, both for the score and to say congratulations to JW for the single greatest journey in film scoring history; and which, shamefully, only received 3 nominations and 1 win. Although I could deal with a Memoirs win.

If Sony hadn't billed it as that "every note" BS, it would have been an excellent resource. As it is, it is a disappointment; but that doesn't mean it is worthless.
