Actually, I don't have the book to confirm, but Bail Organa dies on planet Alderaan, Episode IV, in the first test of Death Star's powelful weapon. I'm pretty sure he won't be tempted by the Dark Side.

How and where was your First time?*
charlesk replied to Luke Skywalker's topic in General Discussion
Lucky of you that you live in London. Here in South Florida, all my friends say about my playing Williams' music is that if I don't have anything more than 'classical' music. Try to guess the composer? Guessing whether is from the 18th or 19th century? That's asking too much. (Somebody help me get out of here  ) -
I agree with English sounding 'funny' in classical music. Even the all-time classic Handel's Messiah, one of oldest with choruses in English sounds funny to me. It's probably because while Latin and Sanscrit emphasize the vowels (vowel sounds are what singers really sing), English has more consonant sounds. As for Star of Bethlehem, while I get tired of most chrithsmas songs, I love this one. The harmonic complexity is amazingly original.

I just came out with a great idea for a movie that will leave you wondering: TITANIC 2: The Sequel Now with Celine Dione singing together with Lara Fabian. Music by James Horner, orchestrated by Hans Zimmer. Choral voices still will be by Casio Electronics. LOL

Who are the bad guys going to be in Indy 4?
charlesk replied to Beowulf's topic in General Discussion
The Illuminati might be the villains. Also, Indy will have a child in Indy4, which might expand the possibilities for a villain. -
Oh, Merkel, that means you where too young to see it in the theaters? I vividly remember the first time an audience saw in the theater the scene of an amazingly realistic big T-Rex walking between the two cars and attacking the children. We all went: "Oh, my holy God!". Spielberg surprise all of us beyond all our expectations. Before JP, all dinosaurs we've seen were stop-and-motion puppets. I was unbelievable how real JP dinosaurs looked. I wonder if in a few years, they'll look artificial, just as the once 'realistic' shark in Jaws.

A must read for everyone...especially AOTC "haters"

Beowulf, George Lucas has grabbed one of the most amazing stories ever told. In Indiana Jones he also proved to be highly creative in other genres. His storyteller talent is out of question. However, I think the article may be a little overdone, a too deep, exhaustive analysis that would surprise and even get laughs from Lucas himself. There are the creators, who just create, and the critics, who overanalyze the creators' works to find hidden meanings and put names and historical references to everything, in an excercise that is more an egolatric display of intellect than an objective observation. Just as this post will become if I succumb to the temptation to continue analyzing. The creator just did it, and I don't think Lucas is conscious of most of the references explained in the article. I'll love to see more Lucas' stories become films, even more if they are directed and scripted by people more talented in those areas. -
I agree dinosaurs evoled from early amphibians. But they didn't evolve from modern day amphibians, who survived whichever cataclysm or event that killed dinosaurs, allowing the other species to evolve. Also, because of the mix with the frog, these JP dinosaurs already changed sex spontaneously to allow procreation. So, I think it's possible to use the argument of the artificial procedure to create the JP dinosaurs as a story plot in which these dinosarus are particularty capable of rapid evolution and spreading. As for the rumors about the story, are many. One of them is about JPIV being a prequel, which I think it's a good idea to restore the fascination for these creatures that we got in JP1. But it seems the audience wants to see these animals in the mainland. So I think they'll come up with a story in which the dinosaurs begin populating the continent, stressing the fact that Humans and Dinosaurs are not meant to live together, because both are dominant species.

How do you 'use' soundtrack music in your lives?
charlesk replied to charlesk's topic in General Discussion
Well, that is THE most original use I've heard so far. Williams would be flattered to use his music instead of the traditional Mendelssohn/Wagner marches. You forgot the Throne Room from Star Wars. Maybe in my wedding... -
Captain Jean-Luc Ricard rocks!

I wonder: how do you guys 'use' soundtrack music in your lives? Where and how do you listen to it? I'll give some of my 'uses', describing a typical day: In the car, while commuting from home to office - I live in an apartment, so I can't listen to soundtracks as loud as it should be, but my car is MY domain. Soundtrack music makes every trip an adventure. The cue "Journey to the Island" from Jurassic Park is perfect to begin any trip, and is particularly motivating for that first drive to the office on Monday mornings. In a lucky day, the wonderful majestic Jurassic Park theme comes just in sync with my entering the highway. Glorious moment. In the car wash - This I discovered by chance. I was in a touchless carwash machine, the ones where the car is stopped and the machine moves around. I was listening to Goldenthal's score for Final Fantasy. The track was Adagio And Transfiguration. The slow part accompanied the soaking of the car. When the dryer machine started and began moving over the car, the track exploded into the Transfiguration part. The dryer machine noise, which produces a low bass sound that makes the whole car vibrate, sound like a big bass drum that fit perfectly with the Transfiguration, creating a thrilling moment. Try to sync your car wash machine with this cue to experience it yourselves! At the Gym: - In the stationary bicycle: I use tracks like ET's "Escape/Chase/Saying Goodbye". Just when you begin to feel tired, the fabulous bicycle theme will give you the kick of energy you need to got you pedaling like crazy. When the take of part comes, people looking at you will think you're trying to make the stationary bike to fly. And the Saying goodby will allow to complete the excercise with a big, stupid smile. - In the stepping machine: I used tracks like Lost World's "The hunt", "Sara's Rescue", "Visitor in San Diego" as well as Arnold's "Ladder Fight" from The Musketeer and other action cues. They are usually long and variated, so you don't get bored and it makes you forget the silliness of steping in a machine to get nowhere. So, how about you?

I think the story would be that because of the way they were created, with the DNA of a more advanced creature (frog), these dinosaurs are far more advanced than the original ones and are evolving very rapidly and spreading throught the world. There will be increasing reports of people killed in the suburbs by strange creatures. If we don't stop them, dinosaurs will reclaim their predominance over to world. Then it comes the ethical question: should we exterminate an species because they will become more intelligent than us? Sorry, I'm fantasizing about this since thread was opened. I want spielberg do more action/aventure movies!! He's just great at that and the last bit of action he gave in minority was too short. I'm also eager to listen how Williams will evolve the musical ideas and instrumentation he introduced in JP and LW.

Fiddler on the Roof (adapted) and The Towering Inferno (scored) Wow, it means that you saw Fiddler on the Roof at the cinema?

How and where was your First time?*
charlesk replied to Luke Skywalker's topic in General Discussion
I'm from the first Star Wars generation. I bought the 2LP set when I was a kid, and for a while I only listened to the overture and the throne room, and was clueless about the far more complex cues in between (the only 'classical' I could take was the firs movement of Beethoven's first). But after many times listening to the whole soundtrack in a subliminar way, while I studied, I matured enough musically to appreciate every second of it. From then on, I paid more attention on the initial credits of every movie, looking for the soundtrack composer. -
Well, Sam Neill's comments got me REALLY intrigued about the movie. Is Williams confirmed too? He said he's interested CharlesK - Who would love another Williams action movie soundtrack

Weird, JoeinAr, it seems you have an ear larger than the other. Maybe you should excercise the other one

The funny thing is that it seems just about anything but Britney Spears is punk (according to Amazon) U2, The Cure, Depeche Mode, B-52, The Police, The Cars is post-punk Green Day, The Offspring is punk-pop The Who, The Doors is proto-punk Sex pistols, Elvis Costello: british punk Blondie is American punk, No Doubt is Ska Punk... I'm amazed

Luke, you should be german, at least you do have their sense of humor. It was meant as a joke. I did notice the track that didn't make it to the CD. There are also tracks in the CDs that didn't make it to the movie, like the beautiful melody for the brachisaurus, and The Hunt in Lost World. It escapes me why. CharlesK - who loves the CGI work done for ET and the new scene and watches it with the Williams' Live soundtrack
-
But he looked young and polished, with that big and hard helmet he had...
-
Probably Spielberg will release a "CGI enhanced" version of the already CGI dinosaurs, and remove the guns, because you shouldn't fire to animals in danger of extinction. He will also remove the line in which the girl says: "Unix, I know this system", because that was just gross.

Just watched Harry Potter C.O.S. last night and.............
charlesk replied to mahler3's topic in General Discussion
What a relief COS is good. I'm so in need of watching a good movie lately (Current box office: 1. Santa Clause 2, 2. The Ring, 3. I Spy and in number four... Jackass: The movie) -
I absolutely hate Realplayer. No matter how much you tell it not to claim all audio extensions, not to install additional crap, not to bother you with icons in the desktop, not to give offers and stuff, the little devil takes every opportunity I run it to do it and give me unsolicited advertising. I'm forced to use it because of the clips at Amazon.

From Encarta.msn.com: "Punk, movement of disaffected youth of the late l970s, manifesting itself in fashions and music designed to shock or intimidate." At least it seems that Darth Vader is punk! LOL

He usually logs in under the user name of A.I. I knew it. No surprise at all. A.I. is so predictable that it bores me.
