I would prefer if it wasn't all misery and death day in, day out.
It can get kind of depressing, but I still watch it. I still like to know what's going on in the world...
It's worth it to occasionally hear the deadpan BBC newsreaders saying things like "Animal rights activists are investigating the attempted shooting of a cat that occured in Oxford in the early hours of this morning..."

It is indeed.

A Clockwork Orange and Apocalypse Now.
Also The Godfather - "I believe in America..."

#2 is definately Shallow Grave .
Indeed it is.
Is No 1 pic "I LOVE YOU TO DEATH"?Nope.

Black Book?

PS Marc- when are you posting your soundbites about all those movies? I'm interested in what you thoguht of a couple of them
I've pretty much given up on my weekly movie update. I'm months behind anyway.
Damn, I was hoping for an episode-by-episode Sopranos review.

What did you think of The Departed, btw (to get this back on topic...kind of)?

I think they could have toned down the swearing in Shrek. It is a childrens' film, after all. Using words like jackass and stuff doesn't work in a kids' film.
I'd be more inclined to complain about "fuckwad", or doesn't that count?

I agree. Other films (The Usual Suspects springs to mind) had asmuch or more, but it never felt forced.
-
Just ordered Close Encounters of the Third Kind anniversary edition and Hearts of Darkness, which I've always wanted to see.

Correct!

Until Hitch gets his pic to show up, try this:

Newman's Air Force One is horrible. If you think it's a good score....then I feel sorry for you. I prefer Goldsmith's and McNeely's version. It's vastly superior.
By all means feel sorry for me if you want to. As I said, it would have been disastrously wrong for the film, but I enjoy the music on its own.

2001: A Space Odyssey (Alex North)
Torn Curtain (Bernard Herrmann)
Air Force One (Randy Newman)
Troy (Gabriel Yared)
This is best as a listening experience, for example I don't think 2001 and AFO would have suited their respective films, though they're great music nonetheless. Troy and Torn Curtain are both excellent scores that would have improved the rather lame films they were written for.

I've been to places where you're not even allowed to take water in.

A cinema I was at a couple of weeks ago had a warning that anyone who brought food or drink into the screening room would be removed. Fortunately I was only seeing a fairly short movie.

Although final confirmation has yet to come in on this, fans will be glad to hear rumors within the music industry are buzzing frantically about Vangelis' upcoming Blade Runner related release. It was late in June when word first broke Vangelis had been composing music for a new album related to Blade Runner, but it wasn't yet clear in which way this would be released. Here finally are some details, according to some very excited insiders.
The new release will be a deluxe set, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Blade Runner movie. Described as a three CD package titled "Blade Runner Trilogy", the set is said to start with the Blade Runner soundtrack as we know it from the official 1994 release. The second disk would present both music from the film not previously released on LP or CD (the notorious bootlegs excepted), as well as music made for the movie at the time, which was neither used nor released in any shape or form. Finally, the third disk would be Vangelis' expected new album, inspired by and thematically linked to Blade Runner.
Personally, I think a lot of people were dreaming about unreleased music from the film finally appearing on CD, while others dreamt of Vangelis returning to the dark melancholic moods played on synthesizers that peeked on the popular Blade Runner soundtrack, by creating new music in the same vein, but I've never heard anyone who dared to openly dream about both of these at the same time... With early word being strongly positive about the results, this could be the answer to what literally everyone has been longing for.
Confirmation and more details expected soon... Expectations are that "Blade Runner Trilogy" will be released in December. Time to start writing those Christmas wish lists...

Anything that doesn't crunch or crackle, and doesn't have chocolate.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Well, Empire's great and all, but I'm voting for The Return of a Man Called Horse. Bought it blindly when I was placing a big order from Screen Archives a while ago.... wow! Excellent score.

Anyone agree with me that Blood Simple is their best?
Anyone?

I finally saw 3:10 to Yuma yesterday. I enjoyed it a lot. I'm interested to see the original.

The original 1933 (Steiner).

I'm amazed by how quickly I came to like Blade Runner - since I really hated it the first time! I think I actually fell asleep. It didn't even intrigue me (unlike some movies that I didn't like first time round but came to love later - most Kubrick films, Chinatown, The Godfather II, Alien - I didn't enjoy them the first time, but they left me wanting to see them again and "get" them). Not sure why I watched it (BR) again, but I'm glad I did, because with one more viewing I really liked it, and a couple more after that it became one of my absolute favourites.
I watched the original Sleuth again yesterday. Loved it again.

1 & 2=. Vertigo / Rear Window
3. Strangers on a Train
4. Psycho
5. Shadow of a Doubt
Next would be North by Northwest and Rebecca.
Hardly anyone seems to talk about Shadow of a Doubt. That's a great film, and if I'm not mistaken Hitchcock's own favourite.
