Just add the Great Hall entrance, and the House Cup cues and I'd be completely satisfied with the PS album. But I still think it's great as it is, one of Williams' better albums.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by a long way, though I like both.

I dunno, I've always liked the scoring of the last few seconds and cut-to-black at the end of The Fury.

If I remember correctly (it's ages since I saw the film, and I didn't like it then) the ballroom sequence also involves balloons. Unless I'm thinking of something else.

Another great movie moment: Dracula (1958), Van Helsing finds Dracula's coffin the cellar.

I can think of a few TMP tracks I like more. Though it's still one of the absolute best cues ever.

I'm not familiar with either of the films, but both scores are great.

I can't say I'm surprised, after all the news about his health in the last few days, but a very sad loss nonetheless. I always liked him, I know him best from Beetlejuice and The Naked Gun 2. R.I.P.

TB might not be quite in the same league, but the first three are definitely among the absolute best.

The Spy Who Loved Me is good, but I like For Your Eyes Only more. But I prefer the first four Connerys to either of them. As for AvP 2, I'll probably wait until it turns up on TV. It might be decent, but I don't particularly want to spend £7 to find out. The first AvP was terrible.

Try asking about this one, then. The Yo-Yo Ma/Williams album is certainly very nice, but IMO his Morricone album is even better.

Some minor spoilers, that probably won't make sense if you haven't seen the movies: Chinatown - Jake finding out the address, and realising he has to go back to Chinatown. Can't really explain why, it's just a wonderful moment. Jerry's score certainly helps. The Godfather: Part II - Hyman Roth talking to Michael about Moe Greene. Star Trek II - Khan attacks the Enterprise ("They still haven't raised their shields." "Raise ours!", etc.) The Third Man - Harry's appearance Lawrence of Arabia - the attack on Aqaba (and that huge shot that pans round to show the guns facing the wrong way). The Bride of Frankenstein - the people in the jars Rear Window - Thorwald returning home when Lisa is in the apartment The Conversation Rocky - it's been played so much it's almost become a cliche of its own, but Rocky running up the steps is such a great moment The French Connection - Doyle following Charnier through the streets, and on the subway train A Clockwork Orange - Mr. Alexander realising who Alex is Dog Day Afternoon - "Wyoming" Dr. Strangelove - reading the contents of the survival kit Psycho - Norman cleaning up the room

I watched Master and Commander again. Loved it all over again, best film of 2003. So much to like - the characters and performances are all wonderful, as is the photography, the CGI (what CGI?), and especially the sound design and use of music. This movie proves that they do occasionally make 'em like they used to. I was going to watch Little Miss Sunshine, but the DVD I rented was faulty. Still hope to see that one ASAP.

I shouldn't imagine they get it perfect the first time, but I can't see the world's top musicians having too much difficulty with that sort of thing. I've heard that orchestras used to struggle with Korngold's tempos (tempi?).

GREAT film! Indeed it is. I loved it. And no, I didn't know anything about the plot beforehand. Can't really put my finger on what was great about it, it just was.
