Not that this is the biggest giveaway, but he spelled "favorite" as "favourite" (the British spelling).

I haven't heard that, but I know he liked to make the re-recordings sound different from the originals. As I understand it he wanted to be better accepted as a "real" composer, and so was keen to make sure that his records didn't "sound like film music".

I absolutely love The Lost World score. Possibly one of my top 10 for Williams, if not that then certainly top 15. I like it much more than Jurassic Park, which has never been a favourite of mine.
As for the film... I don't know what Mark's big problem with the ending is, since I'm not sure I've ever made it that far.
If I have it was 10 years ago, and I don't remember. I've tried to sit through the film a few times since, never managed it. -

Since I believe Lolita came out in the US in 1998, my pick for '97 would probably be Starship Troopers, The Lost World or L.A. Confidential. In terms of how the scores work in their films, those and several others are better than Titanic or Amistad, IMO.

What has Chinatown got to do with it?
I haven't heard Titanic for years, but I've never been convinced that Amistad's score really works in the film. It seems quite intrusive at times. My pick for that year might be Ennio Morricone's Lolita. A very good and underrated score.

Not sure about score, but Toy Story is my favourite of those films.

I bought the DVD set, in the briefcase. Had to pay £14 import duty on it (it only cost £30 including shipping in the first place, so I was quite annoyed about that), but it was worth it.

With the exception of the read-through, most of that stuff was on the Criterion DVD. Which fortunately I never got around to buying.
Haven't bought any movies lately, I'm still working my way through the stuff I picked up in the January sales.

The Lavendar Hill Mob.
Just watched this great comedy myself, again. Love it. The last shot does feel a bit tacked-on, but it's so short and insignificant that it doesn't really bother me at all.
By the way - did you spot Robert Shaw?

I hardly think picking a bad director for The Hobbit would result in the death of cinema and film music.
But Del Toro's a good choice anyway.

If I'm not mistaken, Anthony Hopkins was in Silence of the Lambs for even less than that, and not many people complained about him winning.

Agreed. And whatever Alex may think of that performance, it's hardly the role to judge an entire career on. Irons is a great actor, as he's proved many times. The last film of his I saw was The Merchant of Venice, which I had mixed feelings about, but Irons was fantastic as Antonio.
