It will happen -- just as soon as Disney hire Mike Matessino to do the job properly, because clearly whoever handled Empire on this release didn't even listen to their work.

I won't be spending another cent on existing Star Wars scores until he's involved in the release, because clearly he's the only producer capable of getting these releases right!

The part in D minor has a similar opening phrase to the theme. It may or not be intentional.

The scene involves Palpatine talking about cheating death, so the death of Shmi was implied to be on Anakin's mind then? That's my best guess.

John Williams not only composed the new Han theme, but wrote a whole concert arrangement of it titled "The Adventures of Han" THAT HE CONDUCTED!  It is track#1 of the OST album

He will likely conduct this in concerts, then.

Listening through Empire from start to finish for the first time, it's such a shame that most of these tracks sound fantastic!!

But then you get some absolutely bizarre audio issues like at 4:40 of The Heroics of Luke and Han. Like, what the hell is with that instant change in sound quality? It's like someone grabbed my speakers and dunked them underwater halfway through a note. And over the next 20 seconds the audio returns (mostly) to normal. Is this just a case of degraded elements?

Geez, Departure of Boba Fett sounds borderline mono for the first 40 seconds.

I think it's the opposite. Gia hit his prime with The Incredibles, Star Trek, and Ratatouille. His music has gotten less and less interesting since, maybe because he is over-worked, or maybe because he has just plateaued creatively.

Some of the editing and mixing sounds kinda awkward, like the opening of Confrontation with Count Dooku, but I find it adds to the charm. It sounds a bit more in line with the clunky analog edits on classic OSTs.

AOTC has always had good dynamic range, though. Just listen to Tusken Camp. It goes from extremely soft to extremely loud. It's amazing.

Anyway, it's a nice fresh remaster/mix of this unfairly maligned score that I've always enjoyed.

There is clearly more compression between 1993 and 2018.  I generally prefer less compression in orchestral music of this style.  Compression during the mix/mastering stage means the floor of the volume will be raised so sometimes that can introduce hiss and ambient noises that were previously unnoticed.  Generally speaking, a skilled mixer will use a multi-band compressor so it doesn't just raise all frequencies the same way because that isn't how instruments get loud.  Some frequencies you might not want to raise as much as other frequencies.  I haven't yet listened to any of these yet because Spotify compresses (now talking about the audio fidelity, not the mastering compression) the audio so I don't consider that an audiophile experience and haven't decided if I'm going to get this since I've purchased these damn soundtracks for the umpteenth time every time they come out with a new and improved version only to find out it solves some problems and introduces some new ones.  I am still on the fence about these.

I am positive the people in charge of this property know fans want (and will give them money for) expanded editions of all six scores, and they also know MM would be the person to hire (Remember: Kathleen Kennedy runs Lucasfilm, and she produced all those Spielberg films MM has been expanding lately) There's really no reason to reach out to them to tell them what they already know.  I think expanded editions will come, we just have no clue how low we have to wait.... and they probably won't give us a head's up when they are in the works, we'll probably find out when they are about to be releases like we did with these remasters.

The spectral view of the "Asteroid Field" shows the mess they made. It looks like they applied some sort of agressive noise reduction on the right channel, but forgot to apply it on the left channel. Was it Mickey Mouse who mastered this, with the assistance of Pluto and Donald Duck?
