  1. You're brilliant! Your passion for WIlliams' writing really shines through in your music. Congrats.
  2. An orchestral / action / random cue I started but abandoned: http://soundcloud.co...le/no-direction Do you think it sounds too Williamsy? ... Ah, while I'm here I might as well post here what I'm working on today! Only started it this morning but it's a bit more focused than that other track. https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BxJchh4XMPInMUhqOGNJQ3dIVWc
  3. The music on the iFly Magazine website - I feel inclined to point out that it is produced using sample libraries (e.g. not a real orchestra). Could be a mockup of Newman's stuff though - the mockup does sound very realistic.
  4. Badly sampled woodwinds. Especially tacky MIDI-esque runs. Yuck!
  5. It's nice to hear the Happy Birthday Variations. I've had the score for a while. It's an interesting exercise in counterpoint, and of course showing off his ability to write effectively for the different sections of the orchestra. It's quite an indulgent piece though... aesthetically speaking. Almost camp I would say!
  6. Everyone misuses the term microedit here. Microedit refers to miniscule (maybe even less than a second) edits designed to slightly bring music to sync up against a picture. Not the same as removing a 10 second section, for example.
  7. The only sound that sounds like a digital artifact to me is possibly the click at 3:10 - sounds like that might've been a crosspoint between two takes. Apart from that, I think they're acoustic sounds. Here's my perception: - 2:49, Percussionist clipped the side of the bass drum - 2:53, can't hear anything abnormal - 3:36, ... are you sure you're not just hearing the clapper/whip? As for 'uck' - I think that's just the trombones/cimbasso - where the harsh buzzy timbre is coming through. It's a really well recorded score - very intimate and yet spacious and big. Great clarity.
  8. I'm loving what I'm hearing. There's almost an Alan Menken-esque feel about the melodies. They're so hummable, flowing and natural. Combined with the English Vaughan Williams/Elgar influences creates a very majestic, sophisticated sound. It sounds like this score is going to have a lot to offer!
  9. Same as ChrisAfonso. I'd love to do it. Just depends on time I suppose.
  10. Yup. Got you there. Oh for fucks sake you gormless tit I was just stressing my own feelings towards the music. Anything more than than that you've read into it yourself you stupid internet person. Go away. You're spoiling it, you anally retentive fuck! I lol'd --------------- I wish I could personally congratulate Mr. Williams on such a success. What a brilliant score. It has all the elements that you'd expect from a top-notch Williams score. I can see it's definitely going to become one of my favourites.
  11. Sure, there's similarities. Like a lot of Williams' mystery themes, he seems to use this idea of playing around with arpeggiated minor triads that shift around by small chromatic intervals - crafted into a flowing melody. I like it a lot. This is shaping up to be a really fantastic score.
  12. Interesting - The cinezik.org samples are being streamed from qobuz also. Here's the URL, for example, that cinezik uses for track 3: http://sample.qobuz....&profile=widget And here's the URL directly from these new qobuz site: http://streaming.qob...b=3&fmt=mp3_320 They both seem to start from the same position, for all tracks.. Only difference being the new (latter) links are 60 seconds in length.
  13. I might have a go at 4M14 Dueling the Dementor from PoA "Quidditch and the Great Gryffindor Victory" There's no slate number. Where do I find this one?
  14. I'm itching to try out some new sample libraries I've got. Any requests for something fairly substantial (perhaps an entire missing cue, for example)?
  15. A slightly different track list is appearing on several European online stores (including Amazon.co.uk). No word yet on which version will be released in the US. http://filmmusicreporter.com/2011/10/05/the-adventures-of-tintin-soundtrack-details/
  16. John Williams, renowned for his memorable film scores, will premiere his 'Quartet La Jolla' at SummerFest http://www.signonsan...-John-Williams/
  17. I know this thread is old, but anyone who voted "film hack" really must be very easily commercially influenced, have a misunderstanding of musicality / a lack of understanding about the industry (with regards to JP3) and/or poor aural intuition. Yes, I will make such generalised assertions. Davis is a contemporary musical innovator. He adds value and therefore continues validity and authenticity to the industry. Money is not a factor.
  18. What's the point in including purely subjective opinion on an unreleased score on the front pages, where the focus is purely aesthetic? There's not really much true, open value in that sort of thing, IMHO.
  19. Errrr.. That's just a note-for-note transcription of the melody in the snippet we've heard in the trailer. Nothing to see here..
