Well, I'm looking forward to the score by Chris Young - after his amazing work on the cue "Runaway Train" for Spiderman 2, which I think is one of the most innovative and powerful action cues written in the last decade by a composer other than John Williams. I'm also a fan of Elfman's original scores so I'm looking forward to seeing what Young does with those themes.

I actually really liked moments of the piece. Given a bit of re-orchestration, re-presentation (in terms of sampling), and slight re-harmonisation it could work pretty well as a piece of film music, in my opinion. I love the first harmonic progression as your theme enters - it's pretty powerful. I also think the theme deserves some credit for its seeming memorability. I'm impressed you came up with that considering you say you don't know much about musical theory. Continue listening, enjoying, learning, and enjoying learning.

Wow! Thanks.

The film was dire. The score was dire. Awfully scored film. -
This is why we make backups.

Across the Stars bridge - Jango's escape end?

It sounds purely like transitional music to me, with a slightly ethnic feel as they travel to Tatooine (I think). -
Blame that on short time periods given to composers to write an entire score.

My composition folio is simply a folio of various compositions. The brief for this piece was completely open. The only criteria was that it had to be 2-3 minutes. I'm first year.

I'm currently studying Music Composition at Kingston University, London, and I'm loving every minute of it. Working with film is my dream - who knows if I'll ever get there but that's my aim in life. Realistically I'd be grateful to be writing music for any media - video games, TV, commercials, whatever. I've done a bit of scoring for low budget movies in the past. I'm always looking for scoring projects and the like. I'm really open minded and optimistic towards any project really - it's all good experience.

Absolutely gorgeous. Congratulations, you're enormously talented! Which orchestra is playing in that clip, by the way? And, did you orchestrate the score yourself?

o______________________________O What are you trying to say? That both Spielberg and Williams made a decision to both cut their film and write the score in a way so that they would both fit with eachother?

JW's Prelude and Fugue - New Recording Available Online

The piece is wonderful. Really shows off Williams' versatility. -
It's a very weak score, in my opinion. Messy orchestration, clashing timbres throughout, and very weak harmonies and harmonic progressions make it hard to listen to for me. It has a few nice moments, but most of it seems to be just generic Elfman that I've heard so many times before.

That's a shame.

Well I'm sorry that your snobbish views prevent you from enjoying and appreciating brilliant music.

I'd personally like to hear anything that I could just never imagine Williams choosing to score. Like The Matrix. Don Davis created such a new sound world for that film - what the hell would Williams of done!?

John Williams should be offended by Superman Returns!!
Mooz0r replied to FilmFan's topic in General Discussion
Sorry to say that if you think that if "the entire film score is basically John Williams' original music cut, pasted, and butchered with wannabe attempts at his style", you have absolutely no idea about how composition works. -
Is there any similarities between JNH & JW in their styl
Mooz0r replied to Damo's topic in General Discussion
Of course there's a multitude of stylistic similarities between the two composers - they're both Hollywood composers after all. Still, they're pretty different stylistically. -

Can you scan a few pages and put them up here? Just to give us a sneak preview -
By the way, anyone who doesn't appreciate this music simply has NO idea about what good music is.

Wow!! *Buys*

Stravinsky fo' sho'... Also, Holst, Bartok, etc. etc. Maybe even Ligeti. As well as many jazz composers I'm sure.. Wouldn't like to name any names though.
