  1. And then the insult of cutting to the Sarlaac as it belches is just complete and utter crap.  It's pandering to the lowest common denominator. I don't know about you, but I'm better than that sort of thing.  There is a place for it I admit, but not in a production as classy as Star Wars.  The first 2 films didn't pull that kind of nonsense, because it's totally out of place.

I have returned! I've been keeping an eye on this forum but haven't had the time to reply until now. Anyway, just have to point something out about this scene you guys keep referring to abotu the sarlaac pit burping. This burping definitely was intentionally put in and was not just meant to be a crude joke to please the children. Watch the movie again. This burp occurs right after Boba Fett smashes into the Sail Barge and is swallowed by the Pit. It works perfectly because of Boba Fett and is a fitting end to the character who captured Han Solo. However, I do agree that the burp scene with the random animal outside Jabba's palace was specifically geared towards a random humorous blurb for the audience. It was not necessary, but it is certainly less offending to me than, say, the EXTREMELY childish fart scene right before the pod race in TPM or the Jar-Jar stepping in poodoo in Mos Espa......

As for my take on the main topic of this thread.........Yoda Da Man....blah :)

  2. That's exactly what I thought, as a matter of fact. I've been really really disappointed by it, since it really does go well with Episode II, but I do have this funny feeling that it'll make it's way to the end of the credits of Episode III......the only trouble is, it's not nearly dark enough for the ending of episode III. It has just enough spirit, beauty, and depth to be at the end of Episode II, the cliffhanger, where Anakin is at the stage between his childhood and adulthood(aka Vader), and the love theme is mixed in there. I really think this should be at the end of Episode II, and that a darker, heavier, more dramatic close to Episode III should be written.......I sort of feel gypped having only 2 end credit music endings written for 3 star wars movies......(hehe, well also 1 version of the main title music, for that matter :-P)

  3. Hey thanks for the feedback Jeff......wow, I posted that awhile back! Yes, I've been listening to various reditions of the Imperial March for about 20 years now and definitely identify that section from 2:56-3:13 with that theme whenever I hear it....I don't think it's the exact same rhythem, but it at least uses many similar notes and similar chords. The link to the Imperial March is also strengthened by what is happening onscreen at this point......this is right after Anakin saved Obi-Wan from falling to his death, and they are talking. Anakin is showing his cockiness as he mouths off about needing to find the right speeder, and then claiming that he rivals Master Yoda as a swordsman.....I very much believe Williams wrote this segment of music similar to the Imperial March for symbolic reasons! Let me know if I'm crazy

  4. Haha, too many cows and farms rogueleader? It's nice but doesn't have much city life :) just lots and lots of frats  Hey we played To Tame the Perilous Skies my freshman year, that was fun.....really really intense piece of music. Hmmmm, fondest memory of wind ensemble......there have been many! One of the most recent ones was this past semester......in 1 concert we played pieces by 3 of my favorite wind ensemble composers, Ticheli, Husa, and Hindemith. We played Postcard, and I had a bunch of sax solos in there, and Music for Prague 1968, the most intense piece of music I've ever played, with the 2nd movement being a sax quintet(with Bass sax!!) with the wind ensemble accompanying, and then the 4th Movement (the March) from Hindemith's Metamorphosis. That concert ties the "Space-Themed" concert as my favorite ever....and both happened in the same year! Last year is going to be hard to top ;)

  5. A concert note: The Encore of Imperial March after the Star Wars Main Theme was conducted by "Darth Vader", Mark Scatterday wearing a full vader outfit......the depth and intensity of the encore compared to the 1st movement when it was played is considerably greater....playing the theme of the character who was conducting us was truely one of the most awesome musical moments of my life so far. Everyone was so completely into it! Can any of you sense the difference in intensity? I sure can(especially having played in it), and I think it's really cool.

  6. For anyone new to the board and for those who missed these links last time, here's a repost of The Planets and of the Donald Hundsburger Suite of Star Wars themes performed by the Fall 2001 Cornell University Wind Symphony.....enjoy! And thanks again to ecurbh for allowing me to post them on his FTP!

  7. Hey everyone! I'm curious.....has any progress been made on isolating some of the unreleased music in Episode II? I remember for Episode I, there were tons of great mp3s with such music, and I'm excited to start making my own customized Episode II soundtrack CD :-) Any news on that?

  8. Oh, one neat point of interest, too, our conductor for that concert and this whole past year was Mark Davis Scatterday.....he has been the Cornell Music Dept. chair for the past like 10 or so years......and this coming Fall, he is leaving us to become the new Eastman Wind Ensemble director, replacing Donald Hundsburger! It was a big priviledge playing under such an amazing conductor, and I'm sure the quality of music of these recordings were largely due to his conducting skills :-)
