I cannot overlook the crdibility of the newspaper, I don't want to go on about politics, since that's against the board's rules, but everything that newspaper prints is biased crap. It's the mexican left-wing equivalent of Fox News.
I agree that plenty of newspapers are biased like the New York Times or the Boston Globe, and I also believe that this Alun Francis is a lying weasel, but check out the video, that comment doesn't come from the newspaper.

"La Jornada" is a shitty newspaper anyway, I wouldn't believe anything they write.
Let's overlook the credibility of the newspaper, the source of this information appears to be genuine (although I think Maestro Francis is full-of-it), you can also hear comments the narrator makes at a concert of Star Wars music with the Philharmonic:
Then why didn't you just post a translation, considering most here do not speak Spanish?Well, you will get a translation if you're interested.
-
If you haven't translated it, how do you know it's controversial?
I can speak the language.

Let's see who wants to translate this:
Volver a encontrarse con la música de la película Star Wars (La Guerra de las Galaxias) tiene especial significado para el director Alun Francis, titular de la Orquesta Filarmónica de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (OFUNAM).Y es que pocos saben, e incluso no sería exagerado calificarlo de secreto, que el músico galés trabajó al lado del compositor John Williams en la creación de la banda sonora del primer título de la trilogía fílmica que produjo y dirigió George Lucas a finales de los años 70.

No rehearsal needed for this one. It's gonna be a walk in the park.

This experience ... is all new to me, I've heard of this institution, but I've never been anywhere near it. Amazing to see what's done here.

Williams led the orchestra through the scores of some of the most popular films of all time. The excerpts from Close Encounters of the Third Kind brought back the mystery of the film, and the sheer wonder of E. T., the Extraterrestrial rounded out the end of the concert beautifully. -

PERFORMANCE INFORMATION
Don't miss this thrilling evening of music from motion pictures, featuring selections from John Williams memorable scores for Harry Potter and Memoirs of a Geisha, and a salute to the films of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. Another highlight: a tribute to the classic musicals of director Stanley Donen (Singin' In The Rain, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Royal Wedding, Anchors Aweigh and more) hosted by the legendary director himself.
-
When Williams was talking about Schindler's List on a 1994 Evening at Pops program, he used the word 'tumult', Perlman quipped "I love that word, 'tumul'"
-
You can hear those muted trombones prominently in some of Williams' concert works, I'm thinking of "Craeb Uisnig", the fourth movement of the Bassoon Concerto, The Five Sacred Trees and in his Horn Concerto, among other works.
-
Another rumination: if Riker is actually the second in command, why not call him "Number Two".

"Who does Number Two work for?!?"
-
Just drop Potter and you'll see how much better they will get.
-
Potter is over-represented in each of them.
I was going to say the same thing. It's a little... disturbing.

I don't know how accurate is this:
Special effects work continued on the film, with Tippett's unit adjusting to new technology with Dinosaur Input Devices: models which fed information into the computers to allow themselves to animate the characters and acted out scenes with the raptors and Gallimimus. As well as the computer generated dinosaurs, ILM also created elements such as water splashing and digital face replacement for Ariana Richard's stunt double. Spielberg monitored their progress from Poland and by the end of April the sound effects crew, supervised by George Lucas were finished. Unlike many other films, composer John Williams worked with them, beginning at the end of February, and the score was being conducted a month later, by John Neufeld and Alexander Courage. Jurassic Park was finally completed on May 28, 1993. -
I have a question for people that were there though...It seemed that John sure waved his arms a lot, particularly to the string section on the left closet to the edge of the stage. Is he always that animated or was that section lagging at points?
All that arm waving you saw is what they call "conducting".

Unfortunately the L.A. Times review has been removed. The review was a negative one, I still have the linking address to it. I also have a link to the 2004 Tanglewood presentation by the Boston Globe's Richard Dyer. There´s also a review on Variety:

Controversial statements regarding Star Wars
in General Discussion
Posted
I do agree that the UK is looking a lot like a third world country(I mean, killing a guy for walking back home?)considering that's where the person making the statements is from Wales and has only recently been appointed to a music director post in Mexico City... not to mention that most of his Principal Conductor or Music Director posts have lasted only two or three years.
