As for JW, considering his tastes for um old hat pillars of classical music, its unlikely (speculatively-speaking) that JW's work managed to enter into Benedict's musical / aesthetic spheres. Francis on the other hand is known to have watched some films so there's probably a better chance that he's even aware of JW (again, all speculative).

Decent taste in music. Apparently he liked Mozart. Anyway, RIP.

Some of my earliest fondest musical memories are of his music, have been etched in my being ever since and still continue to be a big part of my life. requiescat in pace

SW: Most iconic of the lot; relaxed, a bit stately & soft in playing- very Korngold / Golden Age vibe. ESB: Upfront, more "martial" & "militaristic", in your face aggressive; cut from Superman: The Movie sonic cloth. ROTJ: Refined and elegant, quite classical sounding- got some of that nice slight ambience also found on the Raiders OST. Prequels: Like a weird amalgam combo of the playing on ESB with the classical centric recording of ROTJ- not really a highlight, more an afterthought. Anyway, ESB's slightly edges out ROTJ's as far personal preference. Though not necessarily best, SW's Main TItle is definitive (or whichever resulted from the edited takes put together back in '77).

Just woke up... Wowza! So ordered! (Not too familiar with the score and haven't yet checked out the clips on the site. Have a copy of the Varèse re-recording and listened to it like once; and have only seen snippets of the film broadcast on tv. But I reckon Men of the Yorktown March happens to be my very fave march of his and this is JW prior to his ascent to greater things in '77 and beyond: a no-brainer really. Back to sleep got me a long drive to MA...)

Happy B-Day Maestro!

Thought it'd be fitting. In the FSM print mag a few years back (Volume 9, Number 7), it was written that our film score "Beatles" were as follow: Jerry Goldsmith- "the Artist"; Ennio Morricone- "who might as well be a space alien"; John Barry- "the Rock Star"; and our JW- "the Maestro"... Dunno about y'all but feel we've lost a large chunk of that mystique and legacy... This large unbelievable loss only shakes to the to core of any self-professed film score fan- he breathed and made alive films in ways only he could... : (

An overwhelmingly sad and momentous loss... : ( I had been on Bond kick as of late and his contribution to that franchise, and to the furthering of the art (and his indelible voice) of film scoring is undoubtedly beyond superlative. He brought great tremendous joy with his work and am sad the world is no longer without him... : ( Surely one on the Titans... RIP John Barry OBE

I adore this work. In terms of acquiring it - you'll have to be patient. I got mine this time two years ago for about $30 USD from (where else?) - eBay.

Hmmm. First animated film that I saw in the cinemas was either Care Bears I or 2 that my Pops took me and my bro to see - I remember him having his Ray Ban aviators on apparently asleep throughout the duration. First live action film in the cinemas was Back to the Future that my aunts took me to - I was still 3 or had just turned 4 not sure but recall it was very much an overwhelming experience esp. the end clock tower scene. By this time though was already familiar with Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back as someone in my fam had recorder the former in its first CTV airing with a dub of a rental VHS of Empire right after on the same tape back to back. Best VHS tape ever!

Oh no. Yeah, rarely if ever the star but noteworthy & integral to a lot of the flicks he appeared in. RIP
