Fuck it, do you want me to buy you a KSC75 for $10?

Eventually you'll need to bit down on a piece of wood like Beethoven to get sound to bone conduct to your brain.

Got my hearing tested last week. I've gradually developed a little bit of tinnitus in my ears which is noticeable in a very quiet room. The hearing loss is a little ahead of what it should be for my age group. Doctor suggests it's from music fanboyism. Lesson to the young ones: read Blumenkohl's Rules for Good Listening and adhere to them! Generally any sound below 75 decibels when it hits your ears won't cause any permanent damage. After that it becomes a factor of time. Hearing loss is cumulative. It adds up over time. At 85 decibels will cause significant loss to your hearing after 8 hours. At 88 decibels you get 4 hours. At 91 you're looking at 2 hours. Every additional 3 decibels cuts the safety margin in half. The damage caused by listening at 85 dB for 8 hours = listening at 91 dB for 2 hours = listening at 103 dB for ~8 minutes.

They’re both over ears.

Pretty good. But it's darker and bassier. I'd suggest the cheaper KSC75.

Like Williams, Powell recently lost his wife (2016):

No. Best overall headphones under $300! Considering you can buy 30 KSC75s for $300. Won't mess up your hair. Light. Portable. Great lifetime warranty. Etc. etc. Been around for decades and will be around for more decades to come.

The guy @Alexcremers posted? He considered the PortaPro and KSC75 the best headphones you can get under $50.

I wonder how much John Williams' mentorship to John Powell on Solo stems from an empathy for Powell's own recent tragic story? Surely there is some kind of bond that forms there? Giacchino didn't get the same treatment.

The sequence from 1:48 all the way to 2:31 in "Mine Mission" is just gorgeous. The most elegant passage of music Star Wars has gotten since The Phantom Menace (in Anakin Is Free). The gentle rhythm, the sublime contrast between the Holst-esque section leading into Chewy's theme. Just wonderful. It punches above even the most beautiful sections of "The Scavenger," which remains the best new Star Wars track.

I mean, for all we know, Williams saw Giacchino as a threat. He could see the potential for Giacchino to become the king of Star Wars, and so his direction to let new composers do their own thing is a vehicle to divide and conquer. Giacchino really was the next John Williams, until the last John Williams caught on!

That’s not what we are arguing with. If you don’t write melodies for movie scores you are not entitled to make personal statements about the difficulties of composing melodies for movie scores. Savvy? Opine about the results all you want, but you have no insight into the process, let alone insight into another composer’s process.

You can have any opinion you like about any end result of a craft. But if you are going to comment on the difficulty of a craft, you better have experience. Are you gonna comment on how difficult it is to pilot an F22 fighter plane vs. an F16 if you haven’t flown either? Then why do you think you can do so with the creation of music if you haven’t created music?
