  1. I wouldn't despise Shore because of that because I dearly love his LotR work and every new variation of it is highly welcome , but yes, it seems like Shore has nothing new to tell us. "Tom's Theme" ... it's the "Grey Havens", non? I've already had exactly the same feeling when I heard Aviator.
  2. Yes, that's what makes them EXTRAordinary. You are seriously overreacting here. Yes, today there are many many scores similar to Williams' work, and that makes Star Wars more ordinary. It's not Williams' fault, but that's the way it is. I didn't compare the prequels with the original, and I said nothing about the quality of the prequels; all I say is: the original Star Wars was special, the prequels are not. And what on earth makes you think I want to deny the influence of the trio Williams/ Spielberg/ Lucas?
  3. I think I can sum up my thoughts on the prequel scores quite easily: it's Star Wars becoming ordinary.
  4. Like today's score collector would be restricted to record stores ...
  5. Get it! Now! Batman Returns suffers heavily from the terrible acoustics of the hall it was recorded in. Nevertheless, I still think the original Batman is not that much better than "Returns". The finale and the end titles are terrific. If you've absolutely got to have one of Goldenthal's efforts, get Batman & Robin.
  6. Ah! Now I get it! So, to make a cue more powerful, you could do two or three takes and layer them? Then I guess vocal soloists are overdubbed, too.
  7. Close Encounter Of The Third Kind, which I bought recently (the expanded release). I have to say, although I've already heard all those great Williams scores like Schindler's List, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, E.T. and so on, I think Close Encounters is his best score to date. I was blown away when I first heard it. Concerning Yared's Troy : I think it's definitely the best score he has done in his carreer (depending on taste), but I wouldn't describe it as "brilliant".
  8. Great, thanks! Um, now what exactly is the point of it?
  9. But what does "overdubbing" or "dubbing" mean? You know, I'm from Germany, and I always thought that you could only dub an actor, but it seems that it's also an important part during the process of scoring a film. Anyone?
  10. You mean "The Belly Of The Steel Beast" ... With Lucas in control, you can never be quite sure if the music (even original music) is in the right place, but I love the music during the pre- duel dialogue between Anakin and Obi- Wan in ROTS (even if the dialogue itself is despicable). The first half of the Anakin Vs Obi Wan duel is among my favourites too, whereas Battle Of The Heroes in film context is among my least favourite cues. Feels like a music video.
  11. Give me Jurassic Park any day. I've seen WOTW once, and that's enough.
  12. Yes, I know; I just didn't want to rip apart the edits again, since it's become almost a running gag.
  13. Another odd appearance of Yoda's Theme would be in AotC on Geonosis, when Anakin fights his way through Star Wars booby traps.
  14. ANAKIN I can’t concentrate on my Gameboy Advance with all these horrific visions.
  15. Amen to that. Indeed. You could try to look past the walking, eating, singing, sleeping and walking, and realise the enormous depth (language- wise, history- wise and mythology- wise). And if you have time left, try to realise how influential the books were. *cough* ... George Lucas ... *cough* Potter ... I recommend Tolkien's World by David Day and Letters from Tolkien. I don't want to sound demeaning, I really recommend those to the people who want to give Tolkien a second chance. The story isn't everyone's cup of tea, sure, but the background is simply astounding. Amen to that, too. And by the way, can't wait for Goblet of Fire I sincerely hope that we'll hear at least a few statements of old material. I'd be very dissapointed if I saw the titles without Hedwig's theme. I don't know, will there be a movie for every book? I think I've heard somewhere there'll be only 5 movies, is that true?
  16. Yes. If I stumble over a rare CD that's not too high priced, I'll buy it. If I can't find a (rare) CD, I'll download it. I never download soundtracks that I could easily get in my preferred stores. There's nothing like holding a brand new (mostly) soundtrack in your hands, but if you can't get it somewhere else, go and download it! For me, that's not anywhere near "stealing", since I have no second option. It's not like "I don't want to pay, so I'll get it someplace else", THAT would be stealing.
  17. In ROTS, the only parallel to Harry Potter can be found in Anakin Vs Obi- Wan, when the strings play that waltz- like melody.
  18. YES! When I first listened to the whiny timpani, I thought "Why the hell did JW include that?" It sounds pretty disgusting, especially in Anakin Vs Obi- Wan and Anakin's Dark Deeds. No reverb, no power.
  19. Latest thing I've heard is that they're aiming for six Spidey films. Whether it's with the same cast & crew, that's a completely different question.
  20. No, and I don't care. How can 7 minutes of additional music (out of a 2 hour score) greatly improve the listening experience? That's bull (for me).
  21. Why exactly did Elfman leave Spidey?
  22. I realise that it's not in the official music book, but is there any unofficial sheet music for The Immolation Scene from ROTS? A shame that they included Padme's Destiny, which is just a rehash of Qui- Gon's Funeral, instead of Immolation Scene.
  23. Because then everyone would have seen the full extent of Lucas' hackslaying, which would have been negative promotion for Episodes II and III. Or it was because of the money. Maybe they were lazy. Maybe they didn't want to release the full thing before the "Ultimate Complete Box Set" of the prequels arrives. Can't really see a good reason ... um, maybe the original tapes were lost ... 8O
  24. And the mixing in those scenes was so bad that it's laughable. GL: "Ian starts to speak here, turn down the volume of the music by 80 % within a nanosecond, no one will notice ..."
  25. Maybe another thing the two have in common
