There are film composers who are hit and miss, and there are film composers whose work you hear once, and conclude that there's so little substance that it will never amount to anything. 

Well, that's one of the most generic things I've ever heard.

I saw the film yeas ago and remember the music being entirely appropriate and functional... but memorable? Not really.
 
It was elevated at the oscars because attaching it to a silent film makes it fashionable to say it's amazing.

Nobody connected to that in the first place. 
It was big because everybody checked it out based on the hype, then saw it once or twice more to make sure they weren't mistaken and it really was that bad.

I am not exaggerating when I say this - I would consider Ben Affleck as batman to be the worst casting in a comic book movie ever. Absolutely indefensibly awful and horrible.
 
 
Watchmen has too much story for Snyder. His sweet spot is a relatively simpler story that he can layer on with visuals. Something too complex and it begins to fall apart.

The comically bad origin story flashback when Superman says "sssssaaaaAAAAVE MMMmmmaaaAAAAARTHA" is cringe.
