Remember when Best Picture winners were crowd pleasing films that you'd want to go and watch? These days they're always oppressive dramas about something topical.
Welcome to Hollywood, California. . . !

I know. Warren Beaty—who really caught the mistake, and was trying to figure things out—winds up looking senile in front of millions.

I don't think the best film of the year should necessarily have the best performances of the year. Those are both independent factors.
Agreed. I like it when they're different. This was kinda like the upset the year Shakespeare in Love walked away with it.

They just showed a replay—it WAS Faye. Warren was stalling, because he thought something was wrong. (You can see him as the producers take the stage shaking his head.)
-
I wonder if this'll be on some Oscar montage in a future show.
-
But he handed it to Faye, who was the one who said "La La Land," right?
-
Well, I think Jimmy Kimmel was the best host in quite some time—presiding over one of the dullest ceremonies evah.

TOLD you the upset win would get it!
-
I guarantee you someone's going to spin this into a white supremacy thing. . . .

"Paging Steve Harvey to the Dolby Theater. . . ."

Are you kidding me?!

. . . or not.

Message movies have the inside track this year, so it could be an upset. . . .

It was very good—and, in comparison, far, far better than Emma's ever been.
-
Gosling's thinking, She won . . . and I didn't?
-
Gawd. That was one of the worst performance clips ever. And that's the one that wins.
-
Emma better not. I could deal with ANY other win.
-
Oh, come on . . . no Sally Field?
-
Pulling for Casey. If Gosling wins. . . .
IT'S CASEY! Wayta go, buddy!
-
Yeah, I would've liked to have seen Arrival do better. But it's no big surprise that it's not.

Okay—the We Bought a Zoo bit was hilarious (as well as Jimmy trying to play Damon off the stage!).

Not that (dammit!).

Okay . . . John Hurt brought a tear.
I wondered if they would try to get Paxton in there. He got a live nod, and probably won't be in the one next year.
Finished with Carrie. Very nice.
I still prefer it when they use a great piece from a score (naturally).

Here we go....

Not a chance.

Don't the winners usually get to keep their envelopes as well? Could this all be blamed on Emma for not taking her mail with her?
That's just plain hilarious!
This is why the Oscars should NOT be decided by the Electoral College!!!
