It's been a long time since I've listened to the OST, and for all the years I've had the 2012 LLL, I can't remember listening to it more than once or twice, so I can't really make any informed comparisons right now... suffice to say, over the last few days I've listened to this set several times already, and it is simply marvelous. In the past I've found the score a bit overwhelming in its wealth of themes and setpieces, but somehow this new presentation makes it a varied and satisfying listen throughout. Not to mention the songs on the last disc giving so much more context to the theme usage in the film! (The only critical observation I could make would be that for my ears, the music and lyrics of the songs sometimes don't mesh very well on a micro-level - the stresses/accents of the text differ from those of the melody...)

ChrisAfonso reacted to Marian Schedenig in Displaying your autographed CDs
(I thought we had a thread about this at some point, but I can't find one)

Years ago, I wanted to find a way to display my autographed CDs and played around a bit with magnets, but couldn't find a satisfying, non-invasive solution (i.e. one that doesn't damage the CD case or inlay) and in the end mostly forgot about it. Until I came across "self-adhesive" (via glue) neodymium magnets at Amazon recently. My first idea was to just stick a few of them at the back of the jewel cases and directly magnet-attach them to my door frame (which has some metal inside - I've been magnet-pinning postcards and travel magnets to my other door frame for years). But while the magnets can hold relatively high weights pretty well, one thing magnets also do quite well is slide, and the CD cases (with CD and everything inside) are a bit too heavy - it takes about 5 or 6 of them to prevent one from slowly sliding down the frame. So instead I'm now sticking two magnets to the back of each case (one in each upper corner) and another two to the door frame. This way, the frame has fixed "slots" for CDs, but those hold very well. Each CD can be detached simply by taking it off the frame, and reattached by just putting them back on the magnets:

What I don't have a solution for yet are digipaks, because I don't want to risk damaging the cardboard my sticking magnets directly to it. And of course the ROTK:CR is too massive for just hanging it on a vertical surface.

What are your ways of displaying your autographed stuff?

ChrisAfonso reacted to crocodile in James Horner's THE MASK OF ZORRO (1998) - 2023 2-CD Expanded Edition from La La Land Records, produced by Neil S. Bulk
I absolutely adore this score. It was my second album from Horner after Titanic and the first one from him that really enchanted me. I played the original album to death when I first got it and it will always hold special place in my heart. It was also the last film I watched with my whole family at the cinema. We all really liked it. It was interesting sequencing for Horner who usually arranges very chronological  programmes. But The Mask of Zorro felt more like a John Williams album with cues combined and out of sequence. It's very cool to hear the entire thing after so many years. Similarly to Willow, the majority of the new material comes from the earlier parts of the film and consists mostly of smaller moments which help to flesh out the narrative and the world of the story. There's actually way more previously unreleased stuff than I realised and it all flows beautifully from start to finish. Wonderful collection of themes and beautiful recording. Horner really embodied the character perfectly and created one of his absolutely best. Classy and charming. I am absolutely over the moon.

I really hope there is a way to release the sequel which had a score just as good (and occasionally better). But I also understand it might be more tricky to license.

Horner fans were really spoiled this year.

This score hits one of my Horner nostalgia soft spots, as it was one of the first Horner scores I discovered (back in the browsing-in-shelves way of things), and clichéd as it may be (hello Carmen!), it's just so much fun to listen to . Even though I pretty much consider the album already very comprehensive, this is an immediate order for me.

    You're right, thank you!

I remember now - it had Stereo and 5.1 in lossy Dolby Digital on a DVD-Video layer (that would play in a standard DVD player), but 24bit/48khz uncompressed audio only on a DVD-Audio layer, so required a DVD-Audio player to hear.

The 2018 Blu Ray disc can play lossless audio in anyone's standard Blu Ray player.

Unless there were multiple versions back when they came out, I believe that's inaccurate - they're normal DVDs (the 3rd one double-sided) with stereo and 5.1 audio tracks, and animated menus showing arted-up images from the corresponding scenes during playback.
