I've always been "into" him. Prior to his death, I had probably sampled some 150 of his works, and owned some 20. But the interest exploded after his death. Sampled about 300 more works over the course of several months, and added some 80 extra titles to my collection, so that it now totals about 100. Mostly lyrical stuff, occasionally some quirky/loungey/bizarre. Not really the dissonant stuff, although I sampled that too. That remains a Morricone frontier I need to get into.

One of my runner-ups/honourable mentions last year, even though it went under the radar for most people. As with any and all BLACK BEAUTY adaptations, it's beautiful and spiritual (think reflective strings, harps and piano) more than it is upbeat and actioney. Which is a plus in my book.

Why are you asking me this question?  The post of mine you are quoting was a question for Alex, not for you

Never heard this one before and that was a shame. It is such a beautiful score although it is quite short. Luckily there is the LLL 3CD set!!!

Ugh. I'm gonna hate this one I just know it. These American ones should just stick with the tones of 1954 or 2014, they can not do pulp well.

EDIT: Waiting for the retort where they couldn't do the original well either.

Tone-wise, it's nothing like 1954 or 2014. It follows Kong: Skull Island more, but even pulpier. And it's even crazier than KOTM.

As last night was my 50th birthday 'eve' and I am a born-and-bred Belfast man, this was last night's double-bill -

'71 - due to an escalation of Troubles hostilities, young soldier Jack O'Connell's unit is sent to Belfast. Unfortunately during a house search in the Republican part of the west of the city, he becomes separated from them and must attempt to make his way back to barracks ... he is aided and hindered in this by people on both sides of the 'divide'. Riveting and suspenseful action drama.

Skyfall - I'll not go on at length, suffice to say it's Craig's best Bond and a series highlight.

I'm not saying they should, but I'm just observing how distant GvK is from 2014. I mean...

...christ, remember when 2014 was just a disaster flick masquerading as a moody little monster thriller about the "sins of the father"? I don't mean this as a criticism, just an observation, but as far as visuals, style and tech goes, GvK feels like the Die Another Day or Batman & Robin of the Monsterverse. Could you have imagined freezeguns, Bane serums and cryogenics existing anywhere in Batman 1989? Or whatever weird shit from DAD appearing anywhere in GoldenEye? It's similar to how these Monsterverse movies have developed over time.

Only in 2021 is a 58-minute album considered "short". I think it's pretty much perfect. Perhaps even a bit too long as is.

    Martinez, actually.
If it had been Artemiev, I'd have typed SOLYARIS.
I can't choose. Each score fits the dreamlike qualities of their respective films.
I love both scores; I love both films.
