How delightful it was to get a new Hammer album again, back in 2018, even if it wasn't a score. This certainly has more than a few MIAMI VICE elements, but that's not a bad thing, as far as I'm concerned! Crossing fingers for a Part 2 down the line.

I concur with the first bit, but I don't feel I'm qualified to make the same claim about the second bit – I feel only composers or qualified musical scholars can make an informed claim.

To be honest I wish Wintory had brought up other cues to discuss and play for his friend, including "The Road to Masada" of course! I still enjoyed it though.
 
 
Would love that of course, especially since it's the last remaining unexpanded Dante collaboration. There's a lot of wonderful unreleased music including this great action cue (almost sounds like it's out of a 70s score like Twilight's Last Gleaming or something) Roger shared in an Intrada thread:

Independence Day is easily one of my absolute favorite film scores of all time and one of the best film scores ever written

I don't think that's true. The Deer Hunter is still a very widely known and frequently shown film. Born on the Fourth of July floats in greater obscurity.
 
 
I've watched the whole film a few times. I don't think I'm masochistic, although I do sometimes feel a sense of mild gratification at the burn of disinfectant on a cut.

Probably Glass' most accomplished, full-bodied film score.

It would be a stretch to call it a modern classic, but Heaven's Gate is brilliant. The Deer Hunter definitely is a modern classic, and I don't think it's great at all.

Indeed it was, and it's interesting to note that, over time, both films have been reappraised, and are now regarded as modern classics. Go figure.

I'd agree with Jay that a differently constructed album would make many more people fans of the score in an album context. I also think an expansion will improve opinions on some parts of the score, but I don't think it would improve the listening experience. The underscore material just isn't strong enough for that.
 
While most of the time we feel that Williams could use someone over his shoulder reassuring him that people want to hear the full Jungle Chase cue, or asking him why he's edited that section out of Rescuing Sarah, no one would ever tell him 'John, that 20 minutes in the middle of the album is dull as hell... put some action stuff in its place'.
