bruce marshall got a reaction from Bayesian in ---
My sister has an M.A. in Music.
She studied composing with John Corigliano.
As far as somevl posters here are concerned, that makes her a more accomplished composer than JW.
Congrats,,Sis!

Lol. The Knightmare scene on BvS is one of the worst additions to that movie, a scene completly bizarre and weird.

I actually enjoyed Joker's score. I have yet to hear it as an album, but it worked really well in the film. Plus, I really enjoy female composers. There are not enough of them, and it's woeful.

Yes. Innovation comes more in the form of a distinctive " sound".
Morricone certainly had it. The recently deceased Billy Goldenberg had it.
THE BEATLES had it!
You may not like it, but Hildur has it- at least in JOKER.

bruce marshall got a reaction from Martinland in New interview with John Williams in The Times
I remember at the time a BIG deal was made out of the fact .
People thought it conveyed a special prestige .Like they were premiering a concert piece .
In fact , the LSO was just an orchestra for hire!
They would play ANYTHING if the price was right.
😁😉
I saw E.T. the Monday after it opened .The " rescue" of E.T. was the most thrilling moment I have ever experienced in a cinema.
😍
Do I really care about the session?😁

I liked it.

Remember the bugs, are you serious? Remember the spiders? Remember the snakes? Remember the rats?
Remember one guy's face melting off, another's being sucked onto his skull, and another's head exploding? Wow, a beating heart, so gross.
Does Indy being white have anything to do with a depressed starving oppressed rural village asking a healthy educated person for help?

Adam Sandler is a great actor.

It's a realistic depiction of a savage culture.

bruce marshall reacted to Erik Woods in Temple of the Doom appreciation thread
The thing about Temple of Doom is that some can't see past the fact that the film was never supposed to be about representing Indian culture as a whole. The Thuggees are essentially a terrorist cell using Hinduism as a front to condone what they are doing. They are NO different than radicalized Islamic terrorists, for instance, who blow up buildings in the name of God.
As for the dinner... of course it was gross. These aren't normal people and the meal was never indented to represent Indian cuisine as well.
So this notion about racism, sexism and whatnot in Temple of Doom is utter BS.
And Spielberg speaking ill of the fllm doesn't help the films reputation either. It's a superb piece of entertainment that did what it was supposed to do and did it brilliantly!

RAIDERS is my least favorite because I never cared for the main theme.
The subsequent scores use less and less of it, all to the better!

The film has alot to do with it.
It's reputation was never great and has only diminished in light of modern cultural sensitivities.
Personally, thought it went way overboard with the " gross out" stuff
