Steven Spielberg, is that you?

bruce marshall reacted to Jurassic Shark in Anyone here succumbed to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray?
A simple "yes" would suffice.

I don't blame you - I don't believe a word he's saying either!

bruce marshall reacted to Tom Guernsey in What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)
Not on the first one as I recall. At least nothing intrusive. Sound and performance are both really good. Great selections too, nice variety.

It's an acronym of the thread title and I think the OF in brackets might be for 'Or Films'.
I seem to remember Richard/NOF previously stating his dislike of the Nolan Batmans, so him watching 2 of them again is curious.

bruce marshall reacted to Brundlefly in John Williams: Unpopular Opinions
I am not a fan of his concert arrangements in general, because he just streamlines the themes so that they all sound the same emotionally by ending with a clichéd orchestral outburst. I even sold my Williams-Spielberg-collaboration-box.

bruce marshall got a reaction from Boreli in R. I. P. Ennio Morricone
Who knows?
The 7 stereo tracks were probably recorded separate, for the LP only.
Films of that era were almost always mono releases.
The scores themselves were often recorded on 3 tracks- then mixed down to mono.
They didn't always save the three track masters, sadly.

I don't think its very helpful for you to continually bash the producers of the 2008 Indy set. The past is the past, a better set will come out some day.
Can we talk about how great ET is - especially in the thread for it - instead please?

If you don't have Botanicus, you better not show your face in this forum, pardner.

bruce marshall reacted to Chen G. in Anyone here succumbed to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray?
You know any other version of Lawrence in UHD?
Pity about the five minutes Lean cut out of the film during the restoration. There's at least one piece there which I view as absolutely essential to the film, but Lean thought the dubbing on Jack Hawkins wasn't convincing and left it out. Shame.

bruce marshall reacted to Marian Schedenig in What's your favourite score composed by a European composer for a European film?
Captain Blood. Austro-Hungarian composer, Austro-Hungarian director, Italian-English writer (of the novel), Japanese-born British female lead, British antagonist. Never mind the Australian star.

Nyman's Musique à Grande Vitesse is used for the opening sequence of the film:
And it's also obviously served as temp track for some of Mosseri's score:
I have no doubt that Mosseri is going to become an indie film darling. He has exactly the kind of fresh voice that filmmakers are starved for.

I don't think talking about James Bond or Harry Potter scores are in the spirit of what this thread is about. Those are Hollywood films.

Loved the hell out of this one- easily one of the best of last year! So vibrant and unique, a rich story told with a lot of heart. Fails and Majors give great performances, and Mosseri's score is so complimentary to the images Talbot provides.
Hard to believe it's a directorial debut because it's delivered with the talent and charisma of a longtime great, although I suppose there is a sense of freshness that permeates through it all which I found to be remarkably refreshing. From what I understand Talbot is developing a trilogy of San Fransisco stories, which could bear some interesting results, and while I would like to see him branch out, I will still keep my eye on his work in the years to come. Hopefully Mosseri will be a frequent partner.
