Ah, I missed AOTC and ROTS being missed!  My mistake.

I'm probably the only one in the world who thinks the prequel trilogy (movie as well as the score) are better then the old trilogy. Maybe one reason is that I'm born after ESB came out and thus too young to appresiate the old trilogy fully. They are great movies (don't get me wrong) but some thing just look old and weird. And I also got the same idea as with e.g. "The Godfather" that it's a great movie because its a classic.

With the score of the old Star Wars movies it's the same thing for me: they ARE great but I like the clear sond of the new trilogy. And of course the recording technic are better/different now days (e.g. the Horns sound completely different now).

The new theme's of TPM makes it for me number one and the the dramatic score of ROTS numer two.

  2. Are you (also) crazy about engraving scores?

    Please share:

    - Why you like engraving

    - What you like to engrave

    - For what purpose you engrave

    - What programme you use

    - Youre best engraved score so far

    Curious to know...

  3. I know. Read the posts again.

In the actual piece, it's a conga, I think, but yes! I was referring to a cuica! What a bizarre drum!

Jerry Goldsmith made wonderful use of it in both PLANET OF THE APES and THE MEPHISTO WALTZ.

    And of course.

Whats that sighing sound from Parade of the Ewoks? I think I heard it on Mrs. Robinson (simon and garfunkle) also. Can someone link a picture of it?

i believe its a conga:p. i believe the way to achieve it is to slide the stick as u hit it so it goes closer to the center.

though it could be some other type of percussion instrument. timpani could do something like this but much lower. roto toms maybe? another possibility, large conch.

    Greetings everyone!

The percussion instrument that produces the moaning glissando-like sound in "Parade of the Ewoks" (by the way, isn't this a miraculously charming piece?) is indeed a South American instrument, unfortunately I forget its name as I'm typing this (forgive me), but similar sounds can be produced by bongos and congas, and other "non-pitched" percussion instruments where you can adjust pitch while you play...A wooden instrument will resemble the "Parade of the Ewoks" sound more closely than ,say, timpani, as we're after a fairly "dry" sounding instrument that won't really resonate beyond the glissando or moan. Bass- recorders can also produce sounds that could resemble a low moan, but I think a clean and even gliss on a bass-recorder is relatively hard to perform, although I'm sure with the right performer, you can negotiate anything, even on a bass-recorder.

    Best,

    Marcus

    Is it a cuica?

Are you referring to the conga 'moose call?'

It's a conga played with "Finger glissando". Source: Signature Edition score of Parade of the Ewoks (from the recent "Music from the Star Wars Saga").

That's exactly what a moose call is. Thanks.

Sorry. My appologies; I didn't know a cuica was the same as a friction drum.

It sounds like a cuica was also used for The Parade from the Phantom Menace (at 0:28)...

  4. Hello everybody,

I don't know if this topic has already been posted (I didn't find anything), if so: my appologies.

I'm looking for any information about sheetmusic for the conert works "For The President's Own" and "American Journey". Have they already been published? I couldn't find anything...

  5. Does someone know where the cues 2M2 and 6M1 are?

Well, apparently the 3d version will be released in Germany in Mid-July.... how great that the download strategy avoids a "pre-mature" release here... given that there will be one at all. The world would end otherwise. I hate life

It's pretty stupid. If they are delaying the score release in Europe until the 3D showings start, then do they honestly expect that fans of the score will just sit tight and not find alternative means?

There's no reason at all to have geographical restrictions on the sale of music in the first place.

I so agree... So, has anyone heard any news on the European situation yet?

Fortunally I have a sister in Canada, so I've purchased it on iTunes Canada... Lucky me.... But I know how you feel, man!!

  6. I forgot to mention until now, but was anybody else surprised the the cork-popping sound effect is in the music mix for the ending Cartoon Demonstration?

I didn't. It's written in the score :sarcasm:

Are there any news on the international situation? I feel so screwed... One of the things I waited most eagerly for, and it turns out to be a "screw the rest of the world"-release :-(

I feel screwed to. It isn't on the international market (Amazon/iTunes) yet..... :kaboom:

  7. Hi,

Does anyone knows how I can get the Mandarin lyrics of "Anything Goes"? This song is sung in "Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom".

This is what I have so far:

Yi wang si-i wa ye kan dao

Xin li bian yao la jing bao jin tian zhi Dao

    Anything goes

    Help! Anyone?

    Obi
