Bellosh reacted to Josh500 in If you got to sit down and talk with JW, what would your top three questions be?
1. What are your personal top 3 favourite scores that you wrote, and why?
2. What has been some of your biggest regrets in your career?
3. Which score/movie do you prefer? Minority Report or War of the Worlds?

Bellosh got a reaction from Quintus in If you got to sit down and talk with JW, what would your top three questions be?
1.) Was the use of the Raiders March always your intended theme for the return to village in Temple of Doom or was there another possible theme/suite that you started to write or think of using, but the Raiders March just worked better.
2.) What's your favorite end credits you've written.
3.) Would you have wanted to score, Lord of the Rings.

Bellosh reacted to Jay in MINORITY REPORT (2002) - 2019 2CD Expanded Edition from La-La Land Records
For me honestly, these new expansions of scores always makes me re-evaluate them, and I always end up loving the scores more than I did before. As much as I've loved JW's music most of my life, there's still a bunch of his older works that I, for whatever reason, didn't ever make part of my recurring listening routine. But then the expansions came out, for scores like The Cowboys, Stanley & Iris, Dracula... and now they are absolutely part of my regular listening rotation, and I can't believe I didn't listen to them more before.
Minority Report falls into the same category! I actually listened to that OST a lot more than the other 3 I mentioned, mostly because it came out when I was going to movies and listening to new scores, not some older score from before I was born like the others. But after an initial burst of excitement, I feel off. Then the session leak came out, which re-interested me again for a while... but then I fell off again. But now with finally a proper presentation in properly mastered sound, I finally *get* the score top to bottom, and listen to it regularly.
Seeing the film again helped a lot, as I had forgotten most details about it after I initially saw it. Seeing the emotions on-screen of Anderton and his wife grieving over the loss of Sean and how that experience ties into the entire story being told really help gel the whole score together, at least for me.
It's also impressive to me that JW did this directly after Attack of the Clones and just before Harry Potter 2 and Catch Me If You Can. What a fertile year!

3:57 of 'Plowing' - War Horse
It's also used in the film trailer as well. It gets me every time.

Bellosh reacted to sithsword in The Book Thief vs. The BFG vs. The Post - The "middling" JW scores from the last few years!
Score and movie ranking:
1) The Book Thief
2) The Post
3) BFG
The Book Thief (both score and movie) is hopeful, innocent and in the end bittersweat and I listen to it regularly. It's definitely at the top for me at the non-bombastic JW scores.
The Post is all right, though it feels too short and like it's missing 'something'. The movie was fine as well, dare I say average Spielberg.
As for the BFG, it does nothing for me. It is of course technically superb, but I find it hollow and uninteresting. And after reading all the reviews, I can't force myself to watch the movie. But still it's not as bad as Lincoln, which is the bottom 2000's JW for me.
And to round it up, The Last Jedi is way above the three together with The Force Awakens and waiting for The Rise of Skywalker to join them.

The Book Thief is far from a middling score. It should have won best score that year.

Bellosh got a reaction from John in Movies you saw Part 2 first
Pretty sure I saw Temple of Doom first as a kid.
In high school, when The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers came out, I knew nothing of the Lord of the Rings or anything Middle Earth. 2 friends of mine dragged me to a matinee to see it, cause I had nothing else to do, wasn't expecting much. After the opening scene with Gandalf fighting the Balrog, I was hooked. I think the Battle of Helms Deep is still one the most amazing theater experiences I will ever have. After that I ran home to watch FOTR, read all the books, have read the Silmarillion and listen to the scores monthly. I don't talk to those friends anymore, but I surpassed them by a long shot in my Middle Earth fandom.

Top 5 of this decade, for me:
1. War Horse
2. The Force Awakens
3. Lincoln
4. The Last Jedi
5. The Adventures of Tintin
I'm inclined to agree.
How so? What do you like about it so much!?

Bellosh reacted to Bilbo in The Book Thief vs. The BFG vs. The Post - The "middling" JW scores from the last few years!
War Horse is his best score of the decade. Lincoln second. I really like The Post.
The Last Jedi is just a phoned in greatest hits compilation. What’s new just isn’t very good and it’s mostly recycled material. That’s probably not his fault though.
I have listened to BFG and Book Thief several times and can’t recall anything from either.

I take offense at the premise that The Book Thief is mediocre overall.

The Book Thief is a masterpiece. It's like a Faberge work in musical form. Precise, simple, yet complexly crafted.

Bellosh reacted to The Illustrious Jerry in The Book Thief vs. The BFG vs. The Post - The "middling" JW scores from the last few years!
THE POST was a terrific movie! Understandably far from Spielberg's best, and yet just as far from his worst. The crazy thing to me about it is that people can say, "Oh, it wasn't all that great. Mediocre showing on Steven's part", and yet it's still a better film than 95% of directors will ever make.

I really love this whole cue, but I wanted to highlight the echoing trumpet fanfares doubled by two glockenspiels panned left and right, such an unusual and brilliant orchestrational touch!

The part in 'Han and Leia' when Finn and Poe reunite, especially the mini reprise at 2:10.

That stupid Circus Organ Sweetener should have just been included on the damn Concord. Lazy AF!
Anyone who's seen the film even once knows how memorable that little sweetener is.
