  1. List: 01. John Williams 02. Danny Elfman 03. Bernard Herrmann 04. Hans Zimmer 05. Alan Silvestri 06. Howard Shore 07. James Horner 08. James Newton Howard 09. Jerry Goldsmith 10. Ennio Morricone Honorable Mentions: Thomas Newman, Rachel Portman, Clint Mansell, Elmer Bernstein, Alexandre Desplat, Michael Giacchino. It's okay. Pretty much the same people that are always mentioned on these things.
  2. I know they're just stumping for the film, but it's nice that Williams and now Kasdan do seem to genuinely be enjoying both the process and what the film is turning into so far. Also encouraging that Kasdan's praise wasn't even provoked by the interviewer.
  3. "Some of these guys can be real prima donnas." - Quentin Tarantino
  4. Premiered at Cannes to raves, 100% on RT so far with critics calling it one of the most creative and emotional Pixar films. Variety's review mentioned the score: http://variety.com/2015/film/festivals/inside-out-review-disney-pixar-cannes-1201499227/
  5. There's an interview on the Pulp Fiction collector's edition soundtrack where he talked about his fear of rejecting someone's music if he didn't like it. No surprise that he's a control freak, but he's been more open to it lately. As Koray said, he wanted Ennio Morricone to score Inglourious Basterds initially, plus Kill Bill had some original stuff and he had 4 songs written for Django Unchained, including one by Morricone.
  6. Didn't Indy 4 get a standing ovation? Yeah, the big "red carpet" premieres always get those crazy standing ovations that go on and on for 5-10 minutes. The critics' screenings are where movies get booed...I think there's always at least one film that gets it every year. It's kind of a hilariously varied list...classics like L'Avventura and Taxi Driver to Tarantino, Malick, and Lynch to movies nobody remembers like The Search, Taking Woodstock, and The Brown Bunny.
  7. Pitch Perfect 2 is expected to be #1 with over 50m, with Mad Max in the mid-40s: https://deadline.com/2015/05/pitch-perfect-2-mad-max-the-fury-box-office-thursday-1201427235/
  8. Also possibly extra episodes? http://news.yahoo.com/david-lynch-twin-peaks-showtime-revival-happening-again-001522102.html;_ylt=A0LEVyPLpVZVZMIANktXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTByMjB0aG5zBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw-- "This damn fine cup of coffee from Mark and David tastes more delicious than ever," Showtime president David Nevins said in a statement Friday confirming the news. "Totally worth the extra brewing time and the cup is even bigger than we expected. David will direct the whole thing which will total more than the originally announced nine hours. Preproduction starts now!!” Anyway, really hope that's that.
  9. I think some kind of secret non-intrusive cameo could have been a fun thing, like make him up for a day as one of the henchman or something, but I agree that he really wasn't necessary for this and he couldn't have played Max again.
  10. Disagree with that last part (though My Own Private Idaho is his best), but apparently Sea of Trees was just roundly booed at Cannes and The Guardian gives it 1/5 stars..... Then again, maybe that means it's good!
  11. For sure! And her big moments are a lot more charged than his.
  12. I wouldn't say Max is deliberately sidelined or anything. It's just more of an ensemble than the other movies, it kind of naturally comes out of the story. He and Furiosa are basically co-leading characters.
  13. It's a great feeling to walk out of a theater with the sense that the movie I just saw is something people will still be watching and enjoying years from now on a Saturday afternoon. I'm weirdly confident in that for a first viewing that ended 30 minutes ago. This thing's gonna hold up. I don't really know how to define "visionary", I suppose this probably isn't that as it's all structured in a fairly conventional way, yet at the same time, it's so bonkers, surprising, colorful, and so its own thing within those action movie traditions that it doesn't strike me as derivative of anything in particular. Hard to describe, it just totally has that elusive X factor for me. A movie that knows exactly what it wants to be and is exactly that, completely itself and perfectly executed. I was thoroughly entertained quite literally from beginning to end and my attention never wavered once....I always forget how rare that actually is until it's achieved for real. So satisfying!
  14. Two clips from Todd Haynes' Carol with Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara Both feature a bit of Carter Burwell's score. Also a short 30-second teaser for the new Macbeth with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_bGl1YGCFs
  15. It is! This has got to be the beginning of the end. The Simpsons without Shearer...I'm sure Flanders, Burns, and Smithers will stick around with a new actor but while I know Al Jean said they're not killing anybody, I wonder if a more minor but still beloved character like Skinner or Hibbert will say goodbye somehow.
  16. Tale of Tales is getting...interesting responses out of Cannes (one critic called it Pier Paolo Pasolini meets Monty Python and the Holy Grail). Those who love it, love it, and Desplat's getting some good notices. http://www.ioncinema.com/reviews/tale-of-tales-review http://variety.com/2015/film/festivals/tale-of-tales-review-cannes-film-festival-1201495163
  17. Yeah, Spielberg the producer is a different animal from Spielberg the director. He puts his name on a lot of crap and has really only produced a small handful of good things since 2000 that he hasn't also directed....pretty much just the WWII stuff, Super 8, and True Grit. I guess United States of Tara was supposedly pretty good too.
