The last minute is the very definition of score bombast, and I used to love it for it, but I dunno, these days it's just a bit much. I mean, it was always OTT, but now it just feels loud for loud's sake. And busy as hell. I know Stefan loves this sort of writing and performance.
Also, I much prefer the more musically defined grand finale of the movie itself before the credits start, with its epic and deeply satisfying brass instead of the choir. It's a little more classy.
Shame we're unlikely to have the original material return for the sequel, let alone its composer.

Jerry in particular wrote some weird scores that only derenged whackjobs like myself listen to apart from their respective films. But I just can't get into the ambience-for-ambience-sake scores that are in-vogue these days.

I haven't heard Grisey's music in years, or that of the other prominent spectralists - ever since I got out of the habit of listening to Radio 3 regularly.
(When I pressed play on that Partiels video, I thought for a second or two that it was Leonard Rosenman's music for the Bakshi film. )

Nah, George Clooney's character was a crap caricature and the sledgehammer visual symbolism was cheesy as hell: *circus announcer* "See Sandra as a baby in the womb of space! Gasp as Sandra crawls out of the ocean onto land like the first life did millions of years ago!"
Clever or subtle it was not. The film would have been stronger if it just stuck to the visceral emersion.
I didn't need IMAX 3D to cringe at that stuff.

Had MoS been nominated (as it possibly should have been), my Williams fandom would have been suppressed somewhat.

Frankly, Giacchino's Into Darkness and Zimmer's MOS should have been nominated if these all were.

If Williams wins, it'll be HUGE! It'll be his sixth Oscar! It'll be awesome! Yay! There should be shouting from the rooftops and dancing in the streets!
If anyone else wins, I honestly don't care about the Oscars, anyway. They're elitist, and who gives a flip what the Academy thinks. Anyone who pays attention to these awards is a loser.
