Score_Fan reacted to Josh500 in Which do you prefer? "Across the Stars" or "Rey's Theme"?
I suspect one reason why Rey's Theme appears so "fresh" (whatever that word means in this context) to some people is that it is very new, released only last year, as opposed to AtS, which was released 14 years ago!

I love both themes, don't get me wrong, but the gorgeously haunting and heartbreakingly tragic "Across the Stars," slightly over the top and theatrical, is an instant classic. After 14 years, I still don't tire of it, and I'm still impressed by it. The performance from LSO is second to none.

Same here. Absolutely no competiton. "Across the Stars" all the way -- the most unashamedly romantic and glorious theme this side of "Tara's Theme" from GONE WITH THE WIND. I'm rather shocked to see "Rey's Theme" so far ahead in the polls. It's a fine theme, don't get me wrong, but it's not even in my Top 10 in the last 10 years.

I agree that getting to see the Hook deleted scenes would be amazing, and would like the see an extended version with them put back in.

Thanks for the tip about the 25th anniversary edition Blu Ray!

I rather like JP3 the movie, but aside from that, I agree. I've never really been drawn that much to Giacchino's score outside of the major highlights, whereas Davis' score is full of awesome moments. Certainly I think he's the better action composer, although I think Giacchino's main theme is better.

Now if Davis had come back for JW, that would've been potentially awesome in my book.

    Hence:

    JP: *****
    TLW: *****
    JP3: ****
    JW: ***

I would say essentially the same, but reverse JP3 with JW. Giacchino wrote some fantastic music, but Don Davis composing was so sublime to JP3, which is more than the pos movie deserved.

Both scores deserve 5 stars, obviously.

They're different, though, because the movies are different

Well, to hear Michael's score isn't great is disappointing, but not shocking. He did only have about 2 months to compose and conduct, after all.

Since Ayer is directing Gotham Sirens or whatever, I fully expect Catwoman to have a tattoo on her forehead that says "Pussy."

Okay, so on Wookiepedia, for "Enter, Lord Vader" apparently there is "A rendition of Anakin's "B-theme", first heard in Episode I, and associated with Shmi's Theme, plays after the opening percussion". Where in the score for TPM can this be heard? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Mostly minor cues, but still very effective ones at that.

    Yeah, cause crying when :
    Your Uncle is shot
    Your best friend is killed
The love of your life dumps you
You face hardships in your family life
    = bad
Rather have Spider-Man crying than doing that bullshit wailing Garfield did in TASM. Franco was fine, and one of the best things about SM3. Same goes for Dafoe. But hey, maybe some people like pointless/ soulless beat for beat remakes with an uninteresting villain.

Hell no, Spider-Man is still great, and SM2 remains in the top 5 best superhero movies ever. Spider-Man 3 simply falls in the good but not great category.

Yeah, I've been giving it alot of re-listens, and it's alot more enjoyable. I think it's a solid 4 star effort, but still nowhere near as good as Arnold's/Barry's work.

I find his solo entry into the Potter series to be ridiculously underrated. His voldemort theme is awesome, and something I wish Desplat/Hooper had included in the sequels, the trwizarding task cues are triumphant, and epic, without pushing it; and Harry In Winter is still one of the best cues of the series.
