I just have my cynical five minutes.
I remember those news stories where terminally ill people asked Lucasfilm, if they could watch the newest Star Wars episode before they die. Happened still with episode 7 and 8. Something like that will never happen anymore.
Under Disney Star Wars became meaningless in most ways. Just remains a leftover with some culture historical relevance and some kind of nostalgic money making franchise.

Not a particularly big fan of the movie, but I love the poster

I don't mind that sort of post credits scene, per se. One last joke, as it were. I do hate the ones that exist to set up the next installment

Romão got a reaction from bruce marshall in FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE (1964) vs. GLADIATOR (2000) - which is the better film / score?
I don't really think that's the case at all with the lion king. The score hardly relies or references the song material
And there are some very accomplished themes in that score

Afterlife, the fruitless exercise in nostalgia that completely missed the point of the irreverent original and turned it into a cross between The Force Awakens and an Amblin film from the 80s. At least the 2016 one tried to capture some of the SNL/improv-heavy, slapdash feel of the first one, even if it ultimately didn't work.

Whatever it was, especially his MGM historical phase brought us some of the most timeless film music themes ever, even if the Giacchino crowd today probably knows next to nothing about i. e. the psalm-turned-main theme of 'Plymouth Adventure', or the baroque romance of 'Diane' or the folksong lilt of 'Moonfleet' or 'Ivanhoe'. Probably to do with what André Previn called 'unnecessary amount of research' in historical libraries, but it pays off.

I like some Zimmer just fine. I even like most of AWE, even though I strongly dislike most of the rest of (what I've heard of) his POTC stuff. But I'll easily rank the Monkey Islands much closer to Korngold than Zimmer on this scale.

I like Zimmer just fine, but this comparasion is a bit preposterous, to a point that it's actually unfair to Zimmer.

Korngold, of course, wins by landslide.

But the Monkey Island scores will always be my sentimental favorite when it comes to Pirate music

This is top 5 Jerry Goldsmith for me, but mostly, by a wide margin, due to the OST re-recording. Really looking forward to check the sound upgrade

And do you really need to empathize with a character? There Will Be Blood is one of the greatest movies of the millennium, filled with pretty despicable characters

That's really interesting, though. How much distance one can have between the protagonist and one's self. But I suppose, to an extent, you can recognize yourself in some of the protagonist's less noble qualities, even if you don't sympathize

Seven Years in Tibet is my favourite John Williams score and it's chock-full of these great moments. I've been listening to it a lot over the past few weeks and I notice something new every time.

I love how stretched the main theme is here, and those impending strings are soooo good! Absolutely chill-inducing when paired with bells + piano at 2:25, and that's before the big finish! Can't really think of anything quite comparable in JW's career to the genuinely epic conclusion at 3:08.

It's a smaller thing but I've always loved how particularly pronounced the bells are at the start of this cue:

I know there's been some speculation about whether an expansion is in store, and while I have no doubts that the specialty label treatment would be kickass, I personally find that the OST is flawless and leaves nothing to be desired. I'm not even sure how much more music there would be to discover but I'll certainly pick up a copy (should it come to fruition) out of obligation to my favourite score and the work of the label alone. In any case, it's awesome stuff!
