  1. Might check this one out then (had a bit of MCU-like isekai fatigue for a while). Watched s1 of Spy X Family. Really fun show with a lot of good jokes, I love the first theme song which combines classic spy music with classic family music
  2. Huh so that came before Home Alone. (Still greatly prefer Somewhere though)
  3. I don't like most straight up pastiches of John Williams but Joel McNeely's A Million Ways to Die in the West is pretty good, mostly because it combines it with pastiches of classic western scores (the Shooting montage and Sheep to the Horizon are particular highlights). There needs to be some kind of interesting "angle" to make it worth listening to for me (not just trying to be another E.T or Raiders)
  4. Those fucking football heads completely fumbled John Williams oh my god. He writes them a new theme and then they shove it in a crappy "making of" video and block any release of it.
  5. First: Tom Sawyer Last: The Rise of Skywalker
  6. It muddies up the narrative. Too many themes that basically have the same associations (Lost Boys Chase/The Banquet, Stick with Me/Hook-napped) or fulfill the same role emotionally (Childhood/Mothers)
  7. In general I'm not really huge on Hook as a score, despite having many great individual moments. Maybe if they kept the songs it would have made more sense but the thematic bloat and consistently sugary tone make it hard to enjoy as a complete score. (compared to the more thematically concise Home Alone or the more tonally and stylistically varied Sorcerer's Stone)
  8. He immediately followed Hook with Far and Away which is a much better score.
  9. I find myself greatly preferring Believe to its film score counterpart, which turns it into a more generic "wonder theme". The slight changes in accompaniment and melody make it a lot more heartfelt and with a layer of melancholy even. Reminds me of Remembering Emilie from War Horse or even parts of Schindler's List
  10. I haven't heard a single note of that song but I already find it annoying
  11. Other than Star Wars, it's definitely Home Alone. John Williams honed in on the best qualities of the film and elevated them tenfold. It's such an underdog type pairing, with a kind of "normal" movie that (on paper) felt out of JW's wheelhouse and even kind of beneath him but in the end it all works so well together.
  12. John Williams made them as a joke to throw off JWfans. Now every JW expansion is gonna have fake songs based on the score's themes
  13. To be fair, the forum has always had at least one guy who calls every new JW work a disappointment. It's a JWfan tradition
  14. I was thinking more like a rap song (ala Hook)
