Lol, so THAT is the HGW quote that some found objectionable?  Is there a language barrier issue or something preventing the reading of it in the proper tone - that is, dry British snark and not earnest puzzlement/derision?

I hate crafting in games, it's mundane as fuck.

Kobe Bryant closes his eyes and listens for the first time to John Williams beautiful and emotional score for "Dear Basketball".

I actually really like Augie's, but it certainly is an unusual addition to the Star Wars musical universe. I'm not a big fan of the album versions synths, but I can look past those and enjoy the percussion and brass. The children's choir isn't awful (like in the album version of Victory Celebration).

I'm not a huge fan of Augie but I love how Williams occasionally gets the chance to inject these bizarre musical cues into the series. There's all the weird source music, Ewok Celebration, Padmé's Ruminations, etc.

I love when he expands the musical palette of the series, for better or worse.

I'd say it's gathering dust in his ever-growing pile of 'developed for a while then lost interest' projects, underneath Robopocalypse and Montezuma.

Personally I'm not fussed about Spielberg's next drama, but Mortara struck me as the more interesting musical challenge for Williams; I can already imagine the score for The Post. Maybe if we're lucky the film will focus on the espionage aspects of the story and we'll get shades of Nixon/JFK?

I guess we can assume Williams will move on to RPO once he finishes TLJ sessions in April, then score The Post later this year? A May production start pushes the first cut back to ~August.

The problem is that he still cares about the Oscars.

If he didn't care about the awards he would be doing much more challenging stuff. It's not like he needs the publicity anyways...

And also it seems something happened after Munich. I seem to recall some controversy back then that scared the Berg out of doing that kind of movies ever again. Although hardly perfect, at least it took a risk.

I had forgotten how bizarre and entertaining this score is!

What the hell? He's abandoned Edgardo Mortara weeks out from shooting in favour of this? Geez. The Italian crew must be pissed!

I wonder if this means he'll aim for a December 2018 release for Mortara? Or hell, shoot it right after finishing The Post? The Berg works quickly when he wants to.

    Definitely !
There aren't a lot of instruments which in a quartet context offer this many possibilities in terms of range and expression.
Trombone/tuba won't go as high as a horn, trumpet is limited in the low register as are most of the woodwinds, and same goes for strings !
Except for cello which would kind of be the equivalent of the horn, strong in both low and high registers

Somehow it got randomly posted to a Reddit thread a few weeks ago (by someone here?) and this major SW news site picked it up.

    Prisoners - Denis Villeneuve (2013)

Competently made, with a solid first half and some interesting ideas, but ultimately, it didn't win me over. A problem is that I figured out how it could all fit together pretty early on, so the story ended up not being particularly engaging to me and in the second half I was just waiting for Gyllenhaal's character to put the pieces together. There was stuff to enjoy for sure, such as good visuals, good performances, and a few memorable moments (notably a short scene with a character driving in the rain towards the end of the film) but it didn't make for a really entrancing experience. By the time the film was over, I was left thinking: "That was it?". For something people consider Villeneuve's best film, and a great film in general, it felt a bit underwhelming. Expected a more gripping story with a bit more twists and turns: what I got was something fairly straightforward without any major "wow" moments. Shame. Maybe Denis isn't the right guy for Blade Runner 2 after all? Is it too late to change?

    6/10
