  1. And i say it again that i will take this film as a necessary evil to get those overdue expanded CD releases of temple of doom and last crusade. Who knows? Maybe something entertaining will come out of it? Some people seem to take these films way to serious anyways.
  2. I am surprised that everybody is asking the wrong questions and avoids the most important one: How come a sparkling and rich effort like Hook lost over far weaker scores like Home Alone, The Lost World and even JFK?
  3. Goldsmith's Boys From Brazil is considered as a possible candidate for this batch. There seems to be another double header which will most likely be limited to 2000 units. Of course there will also be the usual LP to CD reissue and my personal favourites for this spot are Alan Silvestri's Cat's Eye, Bill Conti's The Formula and JNH's Russkies. Of course this is all just pure speculation.
  4. Hopefully this means we get the complete scores released! It is long overdue.
  5. I live in the city so it would not have been a problem to actually get to the concert (unlike many other film music events that take place miles away in the US). My parents agreed that it is a once-in-a-lifetime event so the budget would not have been an issue either. I am sure Williams has good reasons to cancel it but still this is pretty unfair towards his fans in europe.
  6. Damn, i was looking forward to it. Would have been JW just around the corner.
  7. I am certainly not in a hurry to spend my left arm to get that terribly short temple of doom CD. Maybe if i would find it for about 10 to 20 bucks but that is very unlikely. Instead, I would rather wait another 10 years for a proper expanded reissue of that great score but as things are looking right now (with dead silence from paramount) we might have to wait even longer for that to happen. However, I noticed that the album credits of raiders don't even mention paramount but Lucasfilm Ltd. so maybe the situation is not that bad after all. Damn these complicated licencing issues!
  8. Reviews don't affect my listening experience but my buying habits. My funds are extremely limited so I can't just buy it all blindly and later see for myself if its worth the listening time. But lately i found some of the major reviewers have made some pretty odd decisions and ratings which was the reason why i created my own review site. I see reviewing scores also as an opportunity to educate people about film music and its diversity. If fans would not write about their favourite scores anymore, then film music will always remain an underestimated art worshipped by a handful of nerds from the perspective of the general public. So, I can only agree with what a friend of mine said about review sites: The more, the merrier.
  9. Found another hilarious nod in one of my favourite series: Parker Lewis Can't Loose - season one, episode 21 Frank Lemmer is digging for a school relic of the class of 70 and Dennis McCarthy hints Williams' discovery theme from Raiders of the Lost Ark. Many of you will probably not know this funny high school series from the 90's because it is not available on DVD but it is full of such parodies.
  10. By the way, i just checked Amazon.fr again and there is another guy who sells raiders, this time for even less: Only 10 euros. If you don't have it then this could be your chance to buy it cheap. How come these crazy french guys are selling their raiders CDs for such little money?
  11. Now here comes the best part: The LP double header which includes the Williams score is not limited and available at only $16,95! But the real winner is certainly Force 10. The score is dynamite and they even did a vibrant stereo sound! Can't wait to get this thing in my hands.
  12. The silva disc looks absolutely nice indeed. I find the catalogue number really interesting: Raiders 001 One can certainly interpret a lot into this number.
  13. John(ny) Williams' Not With My Wife, You Don't is now available from FSM paired with George Duning's score for Any Wednesday! Force 10 is up as well!
  14. Just had to share this with you: The silva CD of Raiders Of The Lost Ark has long been one of my holy grails but i was never able to find a copy at a reasonable price. But now, the long search is finally over... I found a copy at the french amazon marketplace for the ridiculous price of 12 (!) euros. The CD arrived today and is in perfect condition. What a joy it is to add an original CD of a crucial Williams score to my collection. I am so excited! Now what are your most amazing JW finds?
  15. According to ron goodwin's site http://www.rongoodwin.co.uk/news.htm, the WW2 score will be Force 10 from Navarone. The composer site even has the artwork online already.
  16. Depends on how you are looking at it. Intrada released Broughton's complete score for Silverado which certainly meant high re-use fees and licencing costs (owned by sony - what a coincidence!) as 2-CD set, not limited with extensive liner notes, remastered sound by original recording's engineer Armin Steiner and all the fuzz. Now intrada is a very small company but nevertheless, they made this incredible release happen. Sony, on the other side, is a multi-million dollar company and even if they invest the relatively little amount of money into music from a franchise that is guaranteed to sell much better than something like Silverado will ever do, but still manage to fail then there is something seriously wrong. Yes, i do think that, for a company like sony, these releases are relatively cheap... just like the quality they delivered. Now look at this business of a handful of people at intrada who are devoted fans and what they have achieved instead. The rights for the star wars music are definitely in the wrong hands.
  17. I agree with what had been said before. You don't need a marketing analysis to find out that people won't invest in a hack job like TPM UE. And since these scores were recorded in London the financial risk of releasing them is not high (as we all know, artwork and packaging is not that expensive anyways), especially not for a multi million company like sony. The real problem is that sony does not have any interest to put money into non-mainstream genres like film music. They have perfectly proofed that several times before.
  18. Temple of Doom, when indy rescued willie the love theme is heard when she is still unconcious, then starts again when she hits him in the face and fully unfolds when she kisses him. That was really great. LOL
  19. Not exactly John Williams related, but maybe some people will find it interesting enough: Composer Teddy Castellucci had to leave sony pictures fantasy comedy Click! (starring Adam Sandler and Kate Beckinsale) and Alan Silvestri is now on board to compose the score. The film will come out in June. that's the way I like rejections (no offence, Teddy). Another comedy for Silvestri seems like a nice foreplay to Beowulf and When Worlds Collide.
  20. I agree completely which is the reason why i always watch the film first before i start reviewing the score to get a complete picture of how the score was meant to work in the film. I am afraid many film music reviewers seem to forget that very often which is a shame.
