  1. I can pretty much confirm this, however, it is still going to take them a while. They haven't even gotten Spaceballs and Tango & Cash out there in time. Probably not directly after christmas but mid-late next year you should expect an official announcement.
  2. I can confirm that it's out there and ready to receive a full review from me in a couple of weeks. As far as I can tell, everything is there from the "as time goes by - superman theme"combo-music for warner's logo to lex's model source music.
  3. My thoughts about this compilation: http://www.filmscorecenter.de/filmmusicmas...ansilvestri.htm
  4. What a confession. Well, it comes from a time when "horner-bashing" was still unknown to the world of film music and for many people this is one of horner's best. As far as I am concerned, I like it but the album could need an expansion and remastering.
  5. It's worth having for that brass fanfare theme alone. A lot of the action/suspense stuff is rather autopilot-poledouris but even that is very cool. There is also a complete version out there but I can't really recommend it. The album has most of the important stuff... and that brass theme just kicks ass.
  6. Basil is a composer who never disappointed me with any of his scores (at least not with those I have heard yet). Conan, Red October, Starship Troopers but also his lesser known classics as Red Dawn, flesh & blood or under siege 2 have something great to offer and there are always some amazing themes. I love his music and I hope that after his death, labels will put out more expanded and premiere releases of his scores.
  7. Doug fake already confirmed that it will include The Mission, Mirror Mirror and Go To The Head Of The Class. He also confirmed that there will be no brad fiedel episode score. They are searching for missing master tapes of Elfman's Family Dog episode which is causing the hold up (right now they are not sure if they can include it) and I guess we can either expect volume 3 by the end of december or early next year.
  8. Really, that hook release was wishful thinking on my part. I guess it's more realistic to hope for a complete hook (or any other big williams release from varese) next year when williams celebrates his 75th. I am not sure what varese will be up to this time. Maybe Karate Kit or some other conti related stuff for their 1000 unit CD, a pairing of two rather obscure scores from a big name composer (maybe silvestri's blown away + clean slate - could be fun), the lp-to-CD re-issue and some other release. It's also amazing to see almost no club CD topics at FSM this time. As if people suddenly lost interest in speculating about the club releases.
  9. That's why I hope this one will stay around a bit longer. If i remember correctly, all highly-requested titles from the lp catalogue are already released and whats left is mainly obscure fare by big name composers such as Cat's Eye, Russkies, F/X, The Formula... Right now I can't think of any title that would be as sought-after as, say, Top Secret. (I believe it took sky bandits a little longer than a day to sell out but i can't remember exactly. Unfinished Life does not really count because that wasn't an LP to CD re-issue. The low pressing run was made because it is a rejected score and I doubt there will be a similar release anytime soon)
  10. One more night to sleep and then Santa Townson will come early tomorrow morning. I hope he will bring some nice CDs with him and that they will be around for at least 24 hours
  11. Well, I have already heard the soundtrack release and also checked Cornell's song. I can tell Arnold made a couple of really interesting and intelligent decisions. Since this is a bond-prequel that shows how bond actually became 007, we never really hear the full monthy norman bond theme until the very end but several pieces of John barry's orchestration coming up here or there and some very slight hints were worked into the underscore. Apparently there is also no gunbarrel. Very clever, because it means we only get to hear bond's theme in full when he actually became 007 by the end of the film. Overall, the score has a rather melancholic feeling with a lot of quiet and slow moving tracks that are nicely orchestrated. There is also plenty of action music, sometimes with rock influences and the use of e-guitars as if arnold wants to musically decribe the character of bond as a young rookie who is in a slight identical crisis (which would also fit in with cornell's rock song). Pretty cool and I am sure the real genius of this score will only be revealed after watching the film. It's clear already that it's not just another brainless and hollow techno-bond from arnold. This time there is actually an idea behind it all. Just may take a while until you get used to this approach.
  12. Folks like Santa O-lalla are also praising John Williams. Even folks like us are praising John Williams. Nearly everyone is praising John Williams except when they are classical music snobs or people who live in a cave with their fingers in their ears. What makes Zimmer so special when he does the same thing as we all do every day? There are some really disturbing comments in this interview that require much more attention.
  13. Or one really big release that sells like hotcakes. Colosseum accidentally posted the number of titles which is 5. However, that can also mean we get some double or even tripple-headers. Conti has several short scores out on lp only which would all make great tripple-headers. I am thinking of stuff like Uncle Joe Shannon, An Unmarried Woman or Five Days From Home. The new run will probably include something along those lines plus one lp-CD 1000 unit re-issue and one really big 3000 units top seller. That would make 5.
  14. The most interesting thing about this announcement to me is that it was changed shortly after it was announced. A user at the intrada board revealed the supposedly real announcement which wasn't online that long: Interesting, because this one actually does not contain one of the rocky hints. I guess the second rocky-ish announcement is a decoy. As we all know, Varese usually does not include hints to the titles in their pre-announcement. I highly doubt there will be a rocky CD. In fact, the original announcement sounds more like Blown Away or comparable action/thriller scores but even that is terribly vague.
  15. Well, there was! Just read for yourself how far things really got: Horner: "Hey Rob!" De Niro: "How's everything in the pimp business?" Horner: "How do you like my score?" De Niro: "I think someone should just take this... and just... just flush it down the fuckin' toilet." Horner: "So... you don't like it that much then? Well, I like it a lot!" De Niro: "You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? Then who the hell else are you talkin' to? You talkin' to me? Well, I'm the only one here. Who do the fuck do you think you're talking to? Oh, yeah? Ok." Horner: "Well, that sums it up for me! I think we should quit this!" De Niro: "Here is a man who stood up." Horner: "Mind if i take these score sheets with me?" De Niro: "I got some bad ideas in my head." Horner: "Bye, Rob!" LOL
  16. Well, a score release of this one is not home and dry yet, so we don't even know yet if he can avoid the film but enjoy the score on CD. I have contacted Dan Goldwasser and asked him about a score release and he does not know either because recording still takes place as we speculate. My guess is mid november for the announcement (if there will be one at all). Varese has their november titles up for pre-order and I guess their december run will be announced soon, maybe by the time the club CDs are announced. Fingers crossed that Night At The Museum will be part of it. I wasn't really satisfied with 2006 when it comes to film music either, so I really hope this one will be good and actually receive a CD release.
  17. Some unconfirmable rumour has it that Buysoundtrax is going to release Schifrin's score for Starflight One in late november or december this year. Source for this is doubtful though.
  18. Well, I found the wild to be a quite rich score though the CD left out most of the big main theme performances and otherwise suffered from some strange editing decisions. Furthermore I have really high hopes for NATM which is not going to be like your usual comedy score. A museum full of lively exhibits from all reagions of the world means a score full of excitement. And the descriptions from the foto essay such as "adventurous", "dramatic", "101-piece orchestra" and "choir" are certainly wetting the appetite.
  19. That's a really nice surprise! Congrats!
  20. Foto essay from the sessions is now online at soundtrack.net! http://www.soundtrack.net/news/article/?id=854
  21. Well, I don't have any release of POTC anymore because of... well obvious reasons. There was no need for me to even keep the ost so why bother with an expanded version. However, now that I know you are looking for it I will keep an eye open and if there is an opportunity I will try to get it for you. That's all I can promise.
  22. Okay, I will try to behave and won't comment on the need for such a release. Whatever, isn't there already a 2-CD expanded version out there that actually does NOT include sfx because it is no dvd rip? So why don't you just take this as a base and add a few cues from the dvd?
