The second way. Haven't you seen either film? I've seen "AUJ", and I have read "The Hobbit". It's just that everyone on the TV or the radio pronounces it S-M-O-R-G, while I have always called him S-M-O-W-G, and so I came to jwfan for the definitive answer. In both films, it is always pronounced Smowg. As long as it doesn't start singing, I'm OK with that. Going to watch this movie in a couple of hours. It's actually the first Hobbit/LotR film I'm about seeing in the theater. I hope I'll like it, AUJ didn't do much for me. Too many silly scenes (action pieces, songs, humor), but I still like to know how the story progresses...
