  1. Danny Elfman's music for Tim Burton's movies, yesterday evening at the Royal Albert Hall.

Overall I liked it, I was glad to hear for the first time live some great music from Beetlejuice, Batman & Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Corpse Bride. But the main attraction was hearing the man himself (looking weird and fit at 70) perform songs from the Nightmare before Christmas.

Main gripe was the bad electronic amplification. The music was loud most of the time, even in what should be quiet moments, and in the most orchestrally dense moments it was sometimes illegible. It also drowned out Danny Elfman's voice at several points, which, come on, I'm no expert but can't they do better than this?

Not only is Benji's trip across Vienna very confused (he leaves U2, which would have taken him to Karlsplatz stations (where the State Opera is located), at Schottenring station, and seems to change to U4, which *could* take him there as well (the same station, so still no need to change in the first place), only he goes to the wrong platform for the other direction; he never actually gets *on* a train there though, but suddenly emerges at Karlsplatz station - 5 stops away) - he doesn't even take the correct exit. There's one that emerges right next to the opera house, but he takes the one across the street instead, which means he then has to cross the Ringstraße (5 lanes, plus two tramway lanes and a bike lane), right between two pedestrian crossings.

I'm not as familiar as you with the Vienna subway, but I understood it as Benji taking a voluntarily circuitous path to make sure he had no tail, as instructed by Ethan.

It's even more complex than that. I was thrilled beyond belief, but at first he was going to write some themes, you know, and then hire some people to help arrange it throughout the movie. And then he saw the movie. And then he started writing themes, and then he just didn't stop until he had written over two hours of music. In pencil!

So I'm confused, I thought Williams had been confirmed way before the movie shooting was completed ?

EDIT sorry, didn't see it's already being discussed in General Discussion
