I just can't over the fact that Williams in his late 80's and early 90's is composing some of his best tracks EVER .Pretty mind boggling.

    Galaxy's Edge Symphonic Suite
    The Rise of Skywalker
    The Adventures of Han
    The Rebellion is Reborn
    And now this.

The majesty of this track is off the charts

Count me among those who prefer the concert arrangement heard at Celebration to what I heard from the end credits shared (won't see the show myself until tonight).  I fell hard for that concert version yesterday.  That had better have been recorded by JW back in Feb and get released!

Melody didn't instantly hook me either from that clip of the opening solo but by the end of the full piece, it's in my head.

Reminds me a little of Anthem of Evil, actually, would put this a notch above that.

eitam reacted to mrbellamy in Rian Johnson developing a fourth Star Wars trilogy... Oh my..
I still like TFA overall but definitely the first 40 minutes are the exact - and as has become clear, the only - reason you hire JJ Abrams. I always say that if you just took that on its own with "Chewie we're home" as the cliffhanger, it's basically a masterclass TV pilot. Five new main characters (Rey, Kylo Ren, Poe, Finn, BB-8) very easily defined, with a variety of relationships to each other established within like 10 minutes and a plot set in motion. I still think it's impressive, it was really electric to watch that.

Last Jedi for me mainly drops the ball on Finn and Poe, I think they're both kinda lame in 8 and 9 especially when they were so memorable in 7. I felt like they were set up so well to become a classic duo and I just lost any enthusiasm for them as characters. I really like all the Rey, Kylo Ren, and Luke stuff, agree with Yavar that I wouldn't say those three actors were wasted in that movie. But I am very much over the litigation of that flick.

9 is just all over the place, part of me thinks it would have obviously been improved if Johnson had done a treatment like he was originally going to do. Duel of the Fates might have been better but I read that and eh. George's ideas about the midichlorians driving us like cars, I mean lmfao. I have no idea. Why not!

Of course if they could have found some compelling reason to make this trilogy from the beginning, that would have been ideal but I feel like that was just never an option because they could barely crack TFA on its own and meet Disney's imperative to get that thing out in 2015. It was pretty much a miracle of commercial moviemaking that they managed to turn out a popular Episode VII.

Ultimately I don't really care, it's a fun mess and I'm just glad they knocked them out and John Williams scored them. I'm just a simple JWFan and that was my only real investment. It was so cool and unexpected that he did it, someone pinch me.

Well, it is certainly great news to have another Williams score Matessinoed and in the can. 😀 I've got the previous Intrada edition and heard it only once. Perhaps this new edition will help me to get into this score.

Providing that RTD is successful in revivifying the franchise, I'd hope that Whittaker gets a reappearance in a future anniversary special. That could easily be (at least) one of her best episodes, and help us remember her in a better light.

Wow, never noticed that they had so many franchises in common !
And now that I think about it, Elfman and Zimmer also share 5 "franchises" : Batman, Mission Impossible, Spider-Man, Snyder/Whedon's Justice League, and the Hannibal Lecter trilogy.

eitam reacted to Jay in John Williams "didn't collaborate" with Holt for Obi-Wan show, wrote the theme and a suite in 2 weeks
Since that article is largely about Holt's score, here's the relevant parts about John Williams:

Now on her second major Disney project, the British composer, classically trained violinist and “huge fan of John Williams” will share space in the canon of one of Hollywood’s most enduring franchises. And she’ll do it alongside the man who is “basically the reason why I noticed music in film as a child.”

“John signed the Obi theme for me. I’ve got a printed Obi theme that he recorded and I’ve had it framed,” she told THR, excitedly. “It’s my pride and joy. I’m super happy to have his signature because he’s literally my hero.”

The two didn’t directly collaborate for the show, but Holt says his work on the series’ main character theme helped give her the foundation she needed to musically access one of TV’s most anticipated 2022 series.

Did you have a chance to work directly with Williams for this?

We didn’t collaborate, but I did get to use his theme. He didn’t have very long and it was quite last minute whether he’d have time or not. But he really wanted to write that theme because he was the one character that he didn’t write the theme for in the original movie. So I think he had this feeling that he wanted to complete the challenge. I think he had two weeks and he came on board and wrote the Obi theme and a suite, which is the main title, and then a few variations of how the Obi theme can work. That was what he had time to give the project, and it was just a gift. It’s so perfect and in a way, once I had that Obi theme, it set the tentpoles up for the project.

I think this is a short term question and we should be so lucky to still be here in 5 years annoyed that John Williams is going "This Jabba the Hutt show really afforded me the great good fortune of writing the old slug his first theme. I just want to write a theme for Jabby!"

The regular european release is without narration already. And to my knowledge it is complete already and even contains various cues, that were not used in the film. Sound is good. So, I wouldn't know, how to expand that one.
