eitam reacted to bigjimwilson in Lights, Camera, Action – the LSO on Film (Dirk Brossé, 16 June 2024, Barbican Hall, London)
Maybe he'll feel unwell upon arrival and be replaced by John
This looks great. Might have to make a trip down south

eitam got a reaction from pete in John Williams interviewed on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace on CNN, Sunday March 5
Probably because of the 13 interviews he's done in the past week

Coming soon:
"She's not a woman you can say fucking no to."
"I know, but the fucks are all dead."
"I wrote a fuckton of 5 note variations."

eitam reacted to mstrox in Nicholas Britell - ANDOR (2022)
Just one of those happy coincidences - great minds think alike and all that! Kind of like how James Horner wrote the theme for Willow nearly concurrently with Schumann writing his third symphony.

OK that was subtle, i didn't realize I was off topic
Return to Marlinspike Hall & Finale, followed by The Adventure Continues. The last minute of the Finale always gets my blood pumping in anticipation of the sequel... and then I remember.

eitam reacted to mrbellamy in 95th Academy Awards (2023 ceremony for 2022 films)
I'm not even a big fan of the first Top Gun and as far as I was concerned Maverick was just gonna be a filler Tom Cruise sequel until the next M:I. I also ignored Joseph Kosinski's other movies because I didn't think too much of TRON: Legacy so I really wasn't expecting to see it at all. The reviews made me give it a shot and I ended up seeing it twice and it's the only 2022 movie I got on Bluray, I loved it.
The movie actually reminds me less of modern blockbusters and more of 80s and 90s Tom Cruise films. That's the thing I couldn't get over. Like it obviously is a great action movie but they really save those key sequences and build up to them while the rest of it just feels like a $40 million drama in such a refreshing way. Sure you've got the crusty by-the-book military guys, the band of young recruits, the predictable romantic subplot, the connection between the mentor and one special student, these are all pretty cliche but the movie really makes me buy into those cliches and delight in them. The climax and resolution also pushed all the right buttons for me, in some ways I saw coming and others I didn't. I hesitate to call them "twists" but it definitely swerves the action in ways that feel exactly right.
There is just something so fantastic to me about how it has the pace and tone of the kinds of comfort food, middlebrow dramas Cruise used to make, which is entirely out of place both in today's blockbusters (which rarely have time to slow down for anything) and dramas (which have gotten moodier than ever.) If direction is "tone management" as the Coen Brothers like to say, Kosinski honestly gets an A+, not for having the most brilliant vision, but for knowing exactly how finely to slice some good ol Hollywood cheese, which feels like a lost art unless you're James Cameron. Not what I expected from this movie at all! But that's why it makes sense to me in an Oscar lineup.

The 'they're all dead' joke is many things...it's humorous, has a great buildup to the punchline, produces a good chuckle...but one thing it is not, is a joke that ever gets old!

eitam reacted to MrJosh in All-Star ‘Peter Gunn’ Session With John Williams, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock Pays Tribute to Henry Mancini
Amazing videos, that's so cool to see him jamming. It must have been quite a special experience for him.
When Tracy Smith calls the Peter Gunn Theme a 'song', you can see on Johnny's face that he wants to show her that meme @Jay posts.

eitam reacted to Thor in All-Star ‘Peter Gunn’ Session With John Williams, Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock Pays Tribute to Henry Mancini
I just saw this shared on social media. Very cool! Williams and Jones already performed the GUNN theme live in a Mancini tribute concert some 4-5 years ago, but gotta dig the line-up of this recording session for an actual new Mancinin tribute album. Just wish the videos of the recording session itself lasted longer.

eitam reacted to mrbellamy in New Spielberg movie: The Fabelmans (2022)
Lol I love this, from Spielberg receiving his DGA nomination medallion tonight (ignore the automatic captions)
Things Steven Spielberg was afraid people would think about The Fabelmans:
"So what? Your childhood wasn't all that interesting." "Your mother cheated on your father and we hate her." "All your 8mm childhood movies are posted on YouTube. We've seen them and they aren't very good. Your mother lied to you and you were an untalented kid." "Half of everybody alive today has survived their parents getting divorced without making feature films about it. Your parents weren't even nasty to each other. Get over it and move on." "Please get back to making scary movies, shark movies, alien movies. Those were fun. Who told you you were Francois Truffaut?" "Who's John Ford?" "Hi, I'm a lawyer representing your sisters Anne, Sue, and Nancy. They're suing you for spilling family secrets." "How come you didn't direct Indy 5?" -
eitam reacted to Edmilson in General movie chitchat
I'd like to see an alternate universe one day where Tintin became a huge live action franchise that defined pop culture during the 2000s, while an animated Harry Potter movie that mixes the plot of several books and was directed by Spielberg was barely a hit, never got a sequel and was mostly forgotten (despite having some diehard fans on the internet).

eitam reacted to Jay in Return of the Jedi at 40
You know what this made me think of?
That Star Wars' 40th, then Empire's 40th, then Star Wars' 45th, and now ROTJ's 40th all went by without Disney Records commissioning complete score releases of the OT

eitam reacted to crumbs in John Williams to conduct at the 2023 Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival in Matsumoto, Japan (Sept. 2, 2023)
Me too!!
This news is breathtaking to me. At 91 JW is practically my de facto travel influencer, inspiring me to visit countries I've never seen before.
ASM alluded to him one day conducting in the "far east" but I thought it would be a bridge too far at his age... yet here we are. The flight from LA to Tokyo is no small feat for a man of his age.

eitam reacted to mrbellamy in [Betting Poll] Will The Fabelmans win the Best Original Score Oscar?
Not sure if this has been pointed out but --
John Williams is the first nonagenarian to ever be nominated for an Academy Award, and therefore the oldest person ever to be nominated.
The first person to have been nominated for films released within seven consecutive decades (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, 20s). Rise of Skywalker had previously gotten him nominations in seven consecutive decades for Oscar ceremony years (2020 for a 2019 release)
And he has once again beaten his own record for the most Oscar nominations for a living person with 53. As ever, he is second behind Walt Disney with 59.

Given only anecdotal evidence of the Schindler's comment to date, I would confidently predict JWFan would go nuts if it turned out SS had filmed the exchange.
