I just absolutely hate it when some casual film goer tells me oh that movie is great it has a score by Hans Zimmer. And when I tell him what I think of Zimmer, he makes cuckoo eyes at me and almost apologizes saying..."well he is so popular". Zimmer is like the enemy of thoughtful music. He constantly pervades a culture of dumb, degrading, noisy and unintelligent simplistic horseshit that is marketed as "cutting" edge and sold to audiences who lap it up. His music has just one quality - loud. I think his current music is almost entirely without merit and he has used his current position of influence and esteem in the scoring industry to set some truly terrible precedents which seem to haunt much of the shit that he hear in films these days.

I voted for MotR before listening to both again. I think I might have voted for Flag Parade instead if I had listened to them afresh. Pardon my not having instant recollection of the Flag Parade as I am not as thoroughly familiar with TPM score as I should be. But damn that's a great piece of music. Simply musically speaking, flag parade is the superior piece. Just so much pomp and grandeur, you can literally picture an enormous arena with tens of thousands of flags or people marching in a procession. MotR gives more the feel of a covert military operation.

The term hack is ashamed to be applied to Zimmer. How on earth such a talentless charlatan gets scoring assignments is a mystery. If I were a director, you couldn't pay me to defile my movie with a single "note" "composed" by Zimmer. This obviously sounds like garbage. And so will the entire score. I guess it will fit the film just fine.

John Williams scores to suffer the least editing?
TheUlyssesian replied to TheUlyssesian's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Yeah, as Jay said, Tintin is downright mutilated in the film. And very evidently so. I could make out that the movie was edited on my first viewing of the film without having heard the album too. Anyone know about Schindler's List? And Harry Potter 1? Both of them sound like could be unedited. -
Basically which are the JW scores which were mostly intact in the films and played as they were recorded? I think most of his modern scores and butchered and hacked to bits in the movies.

The Force Awakens The Force Awakens Sheet Music from Hal Leonard
TheUlyssesian replied to Vclguy90's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
The Jedi Steps full version? Wow! I think it might be a full performance and development of the theme. For my bet, it is probably the best theme in the score so I would definitely love more of it.- 109 replies

I like the above discussion about the kind of theme it is. I will say this that there is something about the MotC which could easily make it a villain theme. It is rather forceful and extremely determined in its presentation and construction. The Godwin themes seem more "heroic" so to say, or for good guys. That is why I think the MotC is very interesting. It has a glinting mercenary edge which I think is reflective of the fact that it is apparently not actually sanctioned by the new Republic but is its own guerrilla body.

Can anyone tell me what theme is it from 0:00 to 0:35? This is my favorite opening of all the 6 middle earth films. It has the overwhelming sense of sweeping grandeur that is almost operatic.

Looking for some recommendation for some great Heroic and Badass themes. I include badass in the distinction because some of the most heroic sounding themes can often be villain themes. Beowulf Theme from Beowulf - Alan Silvestri (0:10) Imhotep Theme from The Mummy - Jerry Goldsmith (0:31) Kull Theme from Kull The Conqueror - Joel Goldsmith (0:54) Captain America Theme from Captain America: The First Avenger - Alan Silvestri (0:12) Amphytron Theme - The Legend Of Hercules (1:07) What would you recommend?

I mean this by the Tatoonie theme From 1:42 in the track.

1. Anakin and Padme Love Theme - II 2. Darth Vader's Theme - V 3. Yoda's Theme - V 4. March Of The Resistance - VII 5. Han Solo and Leia Love Theme - V 6. Princess Leia Theme - IV 7. Luke and Leia Theme - VI 8. Luke's Theme - IV 9. Force Theme - IV 10. Tatoonie Theme - IV My rationale - Higher points to themes which can be performed stand alone as extended musical movements without quoting any other themes or motifs. Luke's Theme and Force Theme were hurt in this regard. Han Solo and Leia would be higher but doesn't have a proper concert arrangement. And Tatoonie theme is last because again is a short movement and cannot be performed at length on its own. This is just my rationale - I overall gave preference to melodic harmony and development as markers of strength of the composition of the theme.

The Force Awakens The Force Awakens - Score Reactions from Reviews, etc
TheUlyssesian replied to Lewya's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Clemensen's review is up and frankly I don't get half of his thematic analysis. He seems to have gleaned a very different set of new themes than what we have established here. Anyone read his analysis yet? -
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone A.I. The Adventures of Tintin Star Wars - The Attack Of The Clones Star Wars - The Force Awakens The first Harry Potter is undoubtedly one of Williams' masterpieces. Outstanding. Even the smaller themes are unforgettable.

I see what you are saying. Might happen with general audiences for sure. But frankly didn't happen with me at all. I had admittedly heard the theme track before the film so when I saw it I picked out almost all of its statements in the film. But it can be a slippery theme due to its complexity for the general audience. Its very refinement make it less easy to remember and comprehend for general audiences.
