  1. After watching the movie can confirm this is the Queenie theme (from 2:46 to 3:46). It is arguably the biggest character moment in the film and is treated with a big statement. I think this them was last also used in the last film when she's wishing goodbye to Jacob but we didn't know it was going her theme then. The new film is making some theme associations more clear.
  2. This is true. She's trying to write novels and it doesn't work. Screenplays are a completely different medium. She needs a co-writer. Rowling owns this thing. You can't send her script back. She's a producer here. So her first draft gets filmed - no questions asked. I will take a scemamtic exception to this. The plot isn't dense. Infact the plot is very thin. The set-up and back story is dense. Plot is what happens. Actually - very very very little happens. I can summarize in one single sentence how the plot advanced over the last film. But the ridiculously convoluted backstories kill the film.
  3. No. It's not hard to follow. It's just pointless. There are all these subplots. But so what? The movie never makes you give a fuck.
  4. —- So Grindlewald - yeah this is a really bad movie. I slept. For real. There are so many characters and yet no story. Nothing happens except for the beginning and end. Nothing! It is just constant exposition and backstories that nobody gives a fuck about. If Dickens wrote a really bad fantasy novel, this would be it. Because it both very Dickensian and not very good.

  6. This might be true. The movie was a box office disaster and the critics hated it. So it has no constituency at all. It is going to get jack at the oscars. So why waste precious campaigning dollars. I think Williams might be disqualified due to this rule - "No more than one statuette will normally be given in the Original Score category. A second statuette may be awarded when two credited composers function as equal collaborators, each contributing fully to the original dramatic underscore for the film." Williams was NOT an equal collaborator and did NOT contribute to the score. Source: https://www.oscars.org/sites/oscars/files/91aa_rules.pdf
  7. It's a stretch to call them scores. They are more like sound effects soundscapes.
  8. Lol that stuck out to you and not toys coming alive and having feelings. It is all about empathy. Within the established premise of the series it makes sense.
  9. And it works. And gets me every time. It is almost unbearably poignant. The ending of Toy Story 3 makes me skeptical of the existence of this film. Why ruin something so perfect.
  10. It would totally not surprise me if these days editors while editing the movie go - this scene needs something epic and bust out a standard "epic trailer track" from youtube.
  11. I looking to see the movie so that the music can have more structure in my mind as I listen to it. I like what I hear so far but I do agree it’s a bit darker and not as bright and warm as the first one.
  12. Odd right? I think it was meant to be Newt's main theme. While his hero theme is supposed to be used for the action bits. The same arrangement for the theme as the end credits was used to memorable effect when Fantastic Beasts won it's oscar. It is a magnificent theme I feel.
  13. Does Newt's main theme return? I call that the the theme which plays at 1:07 in the end credits of the first score. I won't be really able to listen to the score until the weekend.
  14. I actually liked that part. The story was ambitious and not fan fiction. She definitely packed a lot into the first film. I will call I novelistic. A novel written directly for the screen.
  15. They HAVE to use the Williams themes. HAVE TO. Williams did not write an entire boatload of themes just for one film. I think they can do a Williams Ross Chamber of Secrets kind of thing where Williams can write maybe 3-4 new themes and then Ross can orchestrate and apply all the old themes that still are applicable. Tintin, Snowy, Haddock, Thompsons, the treasure - all have their themes which HAVE to be used.
  16. A lot of humans are animated in movies these days. Actors today have CGI stunt doubles. Meaning for if you some dangerous stunt, probably done in the computer with the actors face added later. You just can't tell the difference.
  17. Avatar 1 was an animated film. As animated as any Pixar movie. Avatar 1 had some live action elements but it otherwise is an animated film. Same with the sequels. If they submit Avatar for best animated film at the academy, it would be eligible.
  18. She got them beauties out again for her TV series Mildred Pierce. But I don't think every since that.
  19. It is the conspiracy theme and represents anything mysterious and nefarious happening in the plot. That's the main theme of the franchise. But it is used so poorly in the score that you wouldn't know it's the main theme at all. Such a great theme too but horribly underused in the movie.
  20. Seriously Yates has some balls being picky. For a property as ripe for good music as Tarzan, he got the most uninspired score ever.
  21. One of the best themes - let's call it the Healing theme or whatever - i am still not sure what it represents or what it is called. It gets to shine in a concert version during the massive memory wipeout scene.
  22. While I like the main theme - I am not thrilled by the fact that it is presented in such a simple demo like manner - almost a midi. The piano version should have had more ambition. A piano solo shouldn't be scored for Youtuber Difficulty level 1 players. It should feel like an actual piece in itself that could be played in a concert. This arrangement is so simply and unchallenging that is not likely to be featured on its own in any concert. The part at 1:01 should have been how the piece started and it should have built up with even more complex counterpoint as it went on to be more musically interesting. Take for example the first 2 minutes of Williams Sabrina theme. It is very interesting musically on its own and is most definitely not a throwaway demo but an actual piece that a pianist might play.
  23. Having listened to The Landing a few more times - yeah it is walking away with the best score Oscar. Take that to the bank. It is quite impactful even without the visuals.
