This set is the best album I have ever bought. It’s still unreal to me that all of my favourite music from my childhood is newly remastered and released. I’ve been looking forward to discussing every second of Williams’ scores since the set was announced.

Unfortunately due to a tragedy in my family my life turned upside down this December. I simply haven’t got the time, physically nor mentally, to truly enjoy this wonderful music at the moment.
I just want all of you who participate in this thread to know that reading your interesting, funny, analytical posts on these favourite scores of mine really has been a much needed and appreciated ‘escape’ from reality.

Keep up the good discussions, guys!

I think the score is magnificent. The film is okay.

A pity that the new setting and characters mean that the journey theme and Armstrong themes won't return. They were both outstanding themes.

Not looking forward to the movie though. Felt very stale.

Fun fact: I hardly ever do. And if I do I pick up another bag for home.
I don't quite now why, I just don't finish the bag a lot. Maybe if I got a smaller size...

Though remember it is a very small score. It is what - like 30 minutes of music. And built around a single primary theme. It is absolutely a classic though.

That's alright. Jerry Goldsmith wrote CHINATOWN in under ten days. Result: a genuine, paid-up, Premiere League, bona fide "fuckin' A" classic of a score.

Just options I suppose in case they wanted to tweak the voiceover in the final version.

The score to First Man dos not use the standard orchestra. In fact, while not only making use of unconventional instruments (such as the theremin) it doesn't sound like the orchestra is extremely large and might consists of fewer pieces than normal. Most of the cues are essentially with a solo theremin or harp/celeste, for example, and others are some sort of mechanical whirring. But the cues which stand out as the best from the score (see the many edited playlists in the First Man score thread) certainly are good.

I wouldn't expect an standard orchestra to be able to perform any of the score, even The Landing, in concert unless it were arranged differently, which would entail that no, it could not be performed the way it is in the film and on the album.

    That is my thought.

An unabashed 5 star rave from CC!

Calls its "among the masterpieces of the children's musical genre" and "pinnacle of Shaiman long career."

As I said, I think it is quite delightful and the melodies are indeed quite good and memorable.

This is a very good score I think. I have fallen in love with the two themes below already. I think they are instantly memorable. They are both very beautiful and are very beautifully orchestrated in the score throughout. Some of the theme statements are full on John Williams level in their majesty and exhilaration.

Here is proper old school old fashioned orchestral film music done right with beautiful and memorable long-lined melodies that you remember afterwards and leave the theater humming.

Mary's Theme (the basis for the song - Can You Imagine That)

Jack's Theme (the basis for the song - Lovely London Sky)

Any other fans of this score and soundtrack?

It's important in context. Take note the 1st 2 films present a very wholesome version of the wizarding world. Any menace or unease is provided by the score. So Williams was doing a lot of the heavy lifting to bring a measure of weirdness to the proceedings. I think it actually works incredibly well.

I don't think Williams will score any new trailer or teaser. They want that stupid EPIC sound these days for trailers. It will be his themes, but not his recording.

Great piano transcription of what I think is the single best cue of the year - The Crimes of Grindlewald from The Crimes of Grindlewald. The section from 1:21 is my favorite one. Really highlight a great soaring melody.

Found a decent transcription of the piano of the main Double Trouble Concert Arrangement for HP3 End Credits.. Impressively he even manages to get the bit that was missed on the OST.

I think because it constituted the only instance of them having the Family Theme on the 3rd set. Otherwise the theme would be completely absent from it.

TheUlyssesian got a reaction from Yavar Moradi in In your opinion, is Avatar a GREAT score?
I think Horner betrays his melodic grace here. I'll say this, when the main theme does appear, it is indeed quite lovely - but where the heck is it? Its full version is played only once in the film by the boy soprano. I think this is why it fails to have the emotional impact that the main theme of titanic does in the film.

And sorry the War cue posted above, it sounded a lot like Remote Control and power anthems.  Again no melodic grace.
