WilliamsStarShip2282 reacted to MrJosh in GALAXY'S EDGE - New John Williams composition (2018)
Cool photo! I love how all the people at the table are smiling and listening as Williams tells them some fun anecdote that no one has heard before.

WilliamsStarShip2282 reacted to Jay in John Williams recorded something for "A TV project" at Sony sound stage in LA on Monday
Tatooine is supposed to be this tiny inconsequential planet in the middle of nowhere in the original film
Then they returned to it in Return of the Jedi
and Phantom Menace
and Attack of the Clones
and Revenge of the Sith
and The Mandalorian Season 1
and The Rise of Skywalker
and The Mandalorian Season 2
and The Book of Boba Fett
and Obi-Wan Kenobi
when will they move on!?

A piano concerto for Yo-Yo Ma would be fun.

That article gave me goosebumps. The article itself is meh, but Williams is literally the GOAT.

This is literally the goofiest thing i've ever seen. I feel like its something Michael Scott would have pulled in the middle of an Office Episode

What an absolutely fantastic piece. So refreshingly candid and honest compared to the usual puff stuff.
This is also the first time I've seen him so explicitly and brazenly express his fatigue with film, which is completely understandable. In fact, I wish The Fablemans was his last film outing. Don't care too much for the Indiana Jones flick.
I look forward to hearing more of his concert output, where clearly most of his joy lies in these days.
What a class act and gentleman.

I am so happy he is planning to focus on concert works!
Violin Concert No.2 touched me so much my soul was closed for reconstruction and I was not able to compose my own tunes for a while, still processing. One of the greatest piece of music ever for me.
Let's be honest, Hollywood nowadays can not produce films worthy and inspirational enough. Fabelmans - well, maybe it would make a decent farewell, but Indiana 5 as well as SW 789 are just greedy overuses of too long franchises and they are far beneath his true level, it is a miracle he is still able to impress with such a poor material.
It is so good he decided not to waste time trying to save such popcorn bublegum anymore and dedicate his precious time to creating genuine masterpieces without limitations.
Thank you so much for the insights! It is really helpful.

Yea.... he was looking better and better from the Pacemaker surgery until the start of the pandemic.
Now, the pandemic seems to be sapping some of his life.
When I saw him at Tanglewood last summer (the first show he did since the pandemic started), he spoke so effusively about how much doing a show for an audience was empowering him.
Being shut in inside his house for almost all of 2 straight years is not what he wants to be doing
It's kind of not surprising, in retrospect, that he has so many concerts lined up for this year, even with two major film scores to write.

There are so many reasons why a composer born in 1932 would not be still composing scores in 2022. We are incredibly lucky as JW fans that we are celebrating his 90th birthday and also anticipating his future scores.

Hey All,
For my homage to the great king, here is an analysis of his Happy Birthday Variations, which I wrote about a year ago and have revised and added to since the original posting. I was hoping to add two more things I wrote up about the maestro, but I'm traveling and am not able to finish posting the rest, as well as the overhaul to the site, but hopefully soon. Anyway, I hope this is worthy of the great maestro and here's to 90 more years of greatness!

To the one, the only, the iconic John Williams, 90 years young!
Happy 90th Birthday, Maestro!!!
Wait, that's not right...
Let's try that again...
Nope, still wrong.
Getting warmer...
Keep circling...
Try again...
One more try...
Ahh, that's better!
Here's to another 90 years of incredible music!
Now get back to scoring Indy 5, Mangold just changed the edit again.

WilliamsStarShip2282 reacted to Biodome in Beijing Winter Olympics music.
I think this is far from the first time that Olympics are doing selections from the classical repertoire, but I'd have liked something more unique, like the pieces in Tokyo Olympics. Maybe some actual Chinese classical music would've been better.
What was annoying is that the pieces started repeating after a while. They should have covered the whole procession with music, rather than half of it, and then looping it back from the beginning.
