WilliamsStarShip2282 reacted to Cerebral Cortex in John Williams conducts Filarmonica della Scala, Milan, Italy, 12 December 2022!
I feel shaken to my very core. Any sense of identity or purpose I once held within these forum walls is now in question. I've spent years clawing my way up the ranks only to now be replaced in minutes by a couple keystrokes. I am no longer the tool man. Now I am just a tool.

WilliamsStarShip2282 reacted to Miguel Andrade in Williams arranged and conducted Previn album
Williams conducted three albums for Previn. The first one, from 1962 on RCA Records, "Young Hollywood Composers", even has some Williams music. In 1963 and 64 came out "André Previn In Hollywood" and "Soundstage", both on CBS. The later one was re-released in the 70's under the title "The Jazz Piano of Andre Previn".
The CBS albums were released on the Vocalion label a few years ago though it seems they are out of print. Had no idea Sony had released "André Previn in Hollywood" on CD.

WilliamsStarShip2282 reacted to Dr. Know in Universal Spectacle Night Parade
This parade at Universal's Tokyo theme park includes a nice arrangement of Harry Potter music. Not sure who is responsible for this, but it was recorded at Abbey Road with an 80-piece orchestra and an mp3 of the "Hogwarts Express" unit can be heard here: http://www.audiobythebay.com/music_samples/

I remember it well. I might even have a copy or two in my magazine collection. But I never subscribed or anything.

Tell that to Goldsmith.

WilliamsStarShip2282 got a reaction from Miguel Andrade in John Williams' concert debuts with various orchestras
Can you imagine hearing the premiere of both the 5th and 6th symphony, plus the choral fantasy, PLUS some arias all in one night in a freezing theater?

WilliamsStarShip2282 reacted to Fabulin in JW is writing a new violin concerto for Anne-Sophie Mutter - "Violin Concerto No. 2"
I find it interesting that despite the descreasing clout of the classical music world, a foreign violinist, however famous, can still get to talk to the U.S. President when in need. I wonder who was the 'other'. Some well-connected orchestra director? An underling of a relevant Secretary? Steven Spielberg, John Williams?
Maybe a German ambassador...

WilliamsStarShip2282 reacted to Omen II in John Williams' concert debuts with various orchestras
Yes, indeed the last concert I attended on the day before lockdown in March 2020 was a recreation of that concert by the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall. There were two intervals and Stephen Fry presented. At the end he very poignantly wished everyone well as we would awake to a “very different world” the following day.

WilliamsStarShip2282 reacted to Matt S. in John Williams' concert debuts with various orchestras
Has anybody ever staged a recreation of that concert? I'd go for sure (as long as the heat works!)

They played the 4th Piano concerto too!

Wow, what a setlist! I can only imagine how cool it would have been to hear that much JFK and that much Far & Away music at one concert. That's incredible.

yeah, remember when Beethoven conducted and played as a soloist in an over 4-hour long concert of his own works?

Here is the link to the BSO now video recording of the Sunday concert. Naturally, the Williams/ Mutter section is completely cut out, with only him conducting the Imperial March as the encore.

WilliamsStarShip2282 reacted to pete in Boston Symphony Hall 2021-2022 season opens with John Williams conducting Anne-Sophie Mutter for "Violin Concerto No. 2" September 30 & October 2
The free Sunday afternoon concert. It was the only part of that concert not streamed live, so I think we're out of luck for now.

Let Johnny have his privacy. We are lucky he is even doing this at his age. Also we are living in a difficult time with covid, and he is 89 years old....

WilliamsStarShip2282 reacted to pete in "Violin Concerto No. 2 and Selected Film Themes" Williams / Mutter album coming June 3rd from DG - Blu Ray Video coming August 19
Just that The Long Goodbye was played as an encore on Thursday, Sept. 30. Marion's Theme on Saturday.
Hoping for a few more. Something from AI, and while he's mining his early 70s output, The Paperchase has a nice theme. Damn it, he should just arrange everything!
