WilliamsStarShip2282 reacted to Miguel Andrade in Prelude for Piano and Orchestra (new Williams composition - premiered June 2021; Albany Symphony performance & recording coming 2022)
Thanks for the tip. I supposed that would be the case.
The work is due to recording with the Albany Symphony, under David Alan Miller right after the American premiere. My guess is that, as with most of the Albany Symphony recordings, this one will be out on Albany records.

This particular announcer has been doing this kind of errors since forever... for a while he kept saying that Williams first film score was Sugarland Express. And this went for a few seasons, whenever they were playing some excerpts for Spielberg films.

Listening live now. It's always cool when a perfect recording of a concert I attended gets released
Well the Overture sounds even more wonderful now that I can hear it properly again. The Pops played this really well!
The announcer explained that it was the world premiere of the new piece "that captures the elegance and excitement of one of Hollywood's grandest traditions"

I hear there is a map to it--perhaps R2 can help.

No, the other ones for the Hollywood Bowl and Vienna.

That's why I actually thought it was a piece that he pulled off the shelf and dusted off! It was a nice work, and I really loved the new concerto as well. Makes me quite excited for the other new works expected, and I hope we get to hear it unlike a few other pieces that never surface like "A Toast".

I agree with that. It's refreshingly retrospective.

WilliamsStarShip2282 reacted to Roll the Bones in Overture to the Oscars (new JW composition)
It sounds like Jupiter to me in the beginning.
And some of it sort of sounds like Galaxy's Edge.
Some have said it sounds like 90's JW

So that they can play it when he wins for Indiana Jones 5.

It’s a new piece. Confirmed by Boston Symphony Orchestra on Twitter and shared by Legacy of John Williams on Facebook.
But is it his new Hollywood Bowl piece or something related? It would be pretty strange to premiere it in Boston. I’m assuming it’s totally unrelated and he’s been a busy boy.

The new overture also reminds me a tad of "The Rebellion is Reborn" from TLJ, in addition to "Galaxy's Edge." I feel like it has to be a very recent composition.

Perhaps this is Williams' way of trolling us.

Funny that there was nothing at all about it in the program either. Not that there would be but sometimes when he does stuff like "Hymn for New England"(which he changed the name), it was mentioned at least for a sentence or two in the program.

WOW -- just got to hear a recording, and this piece is amazing! A classic Williams fanfare, the likes of which we haven't heard from him in years. Very much looking forward to hearing this in better sound quality soon on the radio broadcast.
It reminds me somewhat of Galaxy's Edge from 2019, which may suggest that this is in fact something JW composed very recently, perhaps during pandemic quarantine.

Never heard it before. But he absolutely wrote it. Similar sounding to the fanfares he wrote for the Pops in the 80's. It was nice though.

Yeah. Overture to the Oscars sounded familiar? But I don’t know if it’s just because it sounded very Williams. It didn’t sound like he just wrote it this past year. I’m surprised nobody has recognized it yet.
Then he just didn’t talk about it at all and went straight on to the olympics music. Not even a mention.

That was, potentially, the greatest night of film music I ever attended.
"Magical" is the best word I can think of to describe it.
John Williams seemed to be in the best shape yet, even better than just a month ago. He was funny, he didn't reach for words as often as the recent norm, and he conducted everything with a great tempo, no slow versions at all.
He ever commented how nice it was to see an audience again after 18 months.
What a legend. The man is almost 90 and looks and acts like he has 20 more years of a career in him

Yeah, what a strange mistake to make, everyone knows John Williams is no pianist but is an excellent guitarist !

I'm still amazed the guy is nearly 90, not to mention his own giant body of work, he still remains really fresh.
