Apart from the suite, I never found the score to Zootopia particular engaging. But I love the movie. Let's hope Giacchino has more room to play this time.

Why wasn't an expanded score album released at the start? Surely it's just a missed revenue opportunity?

Can't say I've ever laughed at a movie poster alone, but I've seen multiple for this on the side of buildings and at bus stops or train stations and they've all generated an audible chuckle from me.

The difference in sound quality between the 2010 score and this is astounding. Just listen to the middle of Dragon Training/First Dragon Training. Absolutely insane.

Only some of the pulsing bass synth thing Desplat does often. And even then, it's subtle.

I'd listened up to "Fins Attack - Part 2" before seeing the movie. I'm now listeneing to the album as a whole:

    - I thought the movie was supremely entertaining. It knows exactly what it wants to do - entertain - and it does it near flawlessly.

    - It feels more like The Lost World than Jurassic Park. Not a problem for me!

    - It also made me realise how poor all of the sequel trilogy movies are. I may have found JW and FK entertaining at the time, but these movies are really, really bad.

    - The dinosaurs (mutated or not) actually feel threatening again. The D-rex and Mutadons were fine. I'm glad it didn't end with a dino battle against with a t-rex saving the day.

    - The number of callsbacks to Spielberg (not limited to Jurassic movies) was lovely.

    - Desplat's score is solid. Colourful, consistently interesting, and fits the film perfectly. The Williams references feel so much more natural than anything Giacchino did.

    - I just wish the score had more "bite". Forgive the pun. Godzilla had this. His score for Jurassic feels more "family friendly". It's fine - it's a shining example of what I want summer popcorn music to be. A couple of moments of tribal percussion or interesting orchestration were begging to be explored further. It plays it safe (but sound) most of the time.

    - I picked up on several themes/motifs, although, outside of that descending brass idea for the Mosasaurus, I really struggled to determine what they were for. They also aren't immediately hummable. I think there's a theme for the family, possibly one for Zora, one for Loomis (only because Jonathan Bailey expressely said he played a solo of it in one cue), and maybe also a main theme as well? One reminds me of E.T., but it often goes off in a Desplat-progression direction (Walking The Swamp) which I really like.

    - I'm comfortable giving this score 4/5. It's not as good as Godzilla, but I feel it had the weight and responsibility of prior Jurassic music to try and carry forward, which Desplat does, even if it boxes him in a little.

It's a great time at the movies - go see it!

I would say it feels like a "Spielberg" score rather than a "Jurassic" score.

It would just have been nice if it had gone down a more "specialist" route - doubling the brass section like in Godzilla, or really leaning into the jungle percussion of The Lost World for example.

That said, it's the most energetic action music I've ever heard from Desplat. I like it!

Can anyone else who sees the movie confirm that the start of "Opening Lab" is unused? I recall the music was much more in-my-face when it first came in than how it starts on the soundtrack.

I guess I'm in the lucky few who enjoys all the Jurassic scores. I agree with Alex, above, that a proper end credits suite would have been great. However, I was hoping for and subsequently pleased when Boat Chase kicked in during the credits. It started with a choir piece - not sure what it was exactly, but I presume it's from another cue that we already have.
