Oh! I must listen to The Village because it is so much better Autumnal score. Thank you. So many good scores not by JW that I almost cry, so emotional.

I always try to keep my comments in the positive spirit of the discussion (hence bringing up the superb Rosewood as a replacement score example that Williams nailed) but I'm not going to restrict my words just to avoid offending a few people who are convinced that no one can ever write better than JW. The forum ceases to be a place of discussion and debate if every conversation gets derailed because someone is devasted at a suggestion tarnishing Williams' abilities.

This score is largely not my thing except for a few cues and The Days Between with the beautiful guitar melody. My overall prior point was that, apart from there being nothing I hear in this score that makes it overly special within Williams' ouvre, I honestly hope that the labels' attention and resources are being spent on scores that need expanding and properly presenting more than I think this score does.

I personally don't care what names you call me (and others) because I know you're a passionate fan, and passion sometimes means we use words we don't really mean. Lord knows I've used wrong words in the past. But I suspect use of 'morons' won't make you any friends in the mod team.

Plus I did I say I thought best adventure score was a good win for DoD - it's a good score. I simply disagree that it's the best, most original and effective score of the year in this case. Appreciation/congratulation threads like this, while maintaining a positive spirit, don't completely exclude constructive criticism.

Brilliant. Williams won something and those two morons just don't like it. Here in the JWfan. "It's not the best by JW and Ludvig one is so much better".

They are very serious to tell us they don't like DOD or any other JW's newer output. BUT WE DON'T CARE!!!

Well, if you ask me about the score of the year, it's this one:

It plays like old school film music, actually more like classical music with large atonal parts and more extended harmony parts resembling Mahler (maybe?) or other composers (who???)..
Please give it a listen (I mean all of you jwfanners) , and tell me your thoughts in the appropriate thread. I would be really curious to know...
I was very surprised when I listened to it, about how good it is! There is no contest with any other film score of the year.
I don't know how it plays to picture though...

I might complain about a Williams loss in a generic Oscar thread.  I would not crash a celebratory Goransson thread to air any complaints.

Well, when Goransson wins the Oscar, you're free to comment on said win while some of us will be congratulating him. Works both ways

Yeah, I remember my parent's 30th anniversary party.  You know, how people were coming up to them and telling them they would have preferred they married different people, and how there are other couples whose anniversary they would rather celebrate.  Great memories, great party.

I enjoy Oppenheimer quite a bit more than DoD. It's way, way more original.

I agree with some of the other winners (drama film, and documentary) and DoD being best adventure score? Sure. Not score of the year though, sorry peeps.

I haven't listened to many 2023 releases but I assume the Williams score was indeed the best?
Because by Williams standards is in my bottom list of his output.

TLJ is the best film(and music) of all sequels and prequels. Fits the last comments and the title of this thread.

Right there with you! Luke's exile theme is my favourite element in the score to The Last Jedi and Archimedes' theme is quickly becoming a highlight for me.

How dissapointing that so many 'regular' fans tend to dismiss Williams' later work. His current musical styles is far more understated than before but I think it has a lot more going on emotionally. But this is very hard to express to the layman who desires so-called memorable themes. (If Rey's theme isn't memorable, I don't know what is.)

Why would anyone compare the animated film score to  Indiana Jones score. So different approach and they are both so brilliant. Negative vibe for DOD and back then Tintin got also very bad comments of course, classic JWfan.com.  Weird place.

Kind of like we did with Rise of Skywalker, let's have some threads of pure positivity and appreciation for the specific cues, tracks, and themes from Dial of Destiny. Why not begin with a track I think we all agree is beautiful and quite affecting: "To Morocco."

Here are two of my observations. First, the statement of the Raiders A theme at 0:35 is an all timer, don't you think? Sure, the first phrase ("Give 'em hell, Indiana Jones!") is lifted more or less without alteration from Crystal Skull 2m13r. But after the pause, you get the rest of the phrase in a totally new way, first this tender clarinet solo, and then a broad brass chorale of an ending. As far as I know, it's the only time the theme has been presented in this way. Or that the 1-2-3 melodic line is harmonized with a IV6-V6-I progression. Just a gorgeous way of fitting in a lot of complex emotions--melancholy, vulnerability, strength--in an incredibly short span.

The second detail: hearing the piano figure for the Antikythera (1:06) in relatively close proximity to the incipit for Helena's theme on the celesta (2:05) brings out a certain intervallic sympathy between the two, doesn't it. The first is D6-D5-C#5-D6-D5-C#5, the latter F5-F6-Gb6-A6-Bb5-C6-F6. The first, an octave drop and semitone step down, the latter an octave leap and semitone step up. Maybe nothing, but undeniably pretty!
