What Is The Last Film You Watched? (Older Films)
DreamTheater replied to Mr. Breathmask's topic in General Discussion
I saw the bonus features on the DC blu-ray and to me the writers of the comic were very appreciative of the film adaptation. They stated what they meant to convey in the comic had successfully translated to the big screen. Or they were just praising to get new fans of the movie interested in reading it, that's also a possibility. I've never read this comic, or any comic just to be clear. -
So he's considered one of the greats now? Deserving of a compilation album?

Avatar has changed the life of those that made it, they have a lot more cash now than before 2009. By the way, I adore the movie, it changed my life too. It made me buy a 3D TV.

Watchmen's an excellent flick... it took me 3 times to fully appreciate it (director's cut). It's definitely as far removed as possible from other superhero films I've seen. Audio-visually striking too. If I compare this to the monstrosity of Man of Steel... -

Oh, I need to do this too... I have the blu-ray and all this time I wasn't aware it had the isolated score track. Kudos for making me aware, I'll be listening soon... -
I have the theme on 'The Music of America: John Williams', performed by Recording Arts Orchestra of Los Angeles, conducted by Williams Not sure if this is helpful, but it's a fantastic set, that one.

Thelma & Louise is brilliant. Geena Davis, Susan Sarandon, Michael Madsen, Brad Pitt, Harvey Keitel, a great script, breathtaking cinematography, a wonderful Zimmer score, great choice of songs, plus the most perfect ending. And one big LOL moment that gets me laughing out loud every time. Take a guess which scene makes me do that. I'd love for Scott to return to this kind of filmmaking... with heartfelt emotions and focusing on the characters' journey, not relying on visual effects or bloated storylines.

What is the last video game you played?
DreamTheater replied to Quintus's topic in General Discussion
I imagine it's awful because one needs to get used to it. I was driving and slamming into everything. Also braking with square is a bit strange. I only got to the first riddler challenge (where I need to complete 3 laps) and that gave me some problems but that was more due to the bat-shit crazy track design. Using it for getting around the city is pretty cool. Also Rocksteady has perfected the combat, I can now get to 10 combo moves pretty easy. Which makes me look awesome ! I also have MGS 5 lying here, I want to give it a go ASAP but I'll have to stick with Batman for now. Priorities man !! -

Batman Arkham Knight on PS4... it's a bit of alright. I'm loving it actually... how the old and new mechanics form a complete package. It's pretty amazing how they've managed to keep it all fresh... there's tons of new ideas in here that aren't in the previous 3 games. The batmobile addition takes some getting used to, it's like where I flew around the city before I mostly now drive. The control scheme is pretty complex but at the same time extremely intuitive. And what a most fabulous presentation... the visual details, Gotham City itself, the characters designs. Bad-ass !!!! They've got some great designers over at Rocksteady ! -
Concretely huh? Well that's the best description I've heard anyone say that the PS4 flatout ROCKS !

But I bet you know everything about these machines, right? You misquoted and no I'm not a car freak either. I know how to put one in gear, accelerate, brake, turn the wheel, put on the A/C, and turn the windshield wipers on, that's about it. -

Well I'm not into motorbikes and am unlikely to ever build an appreciation of them given that I never ride them. You can hardly compare motorbikes with music. I'm afraid of driving them and I'll never get on one... but I don't dismiss them as shit. -

I get this remark, I do... John Debney is a film composer after all. He wrote it in the template he knows so well. I just want you to acknowledge that video game music is not poor, cliched or whatever negative description you want to give it. Because I'm confident you've only heard a tiny fraction of what's out there, so you cannot possibly claim that as the truth. -

It's a shame that a company as respected as Bungie got this sort of negative attention, but to me it feels that Activision are the ones that deserve the blame. They came in and changed Bungie's working methods for the worse and O'Donnell felt his creativity threatened, contributions disrespected and didn't want to play along with the new company's policy. Something I can totally understand. So good for Marty having won the lawsuit. And I don't think he'd want to work with Bungie anymore. Unless they get on their knees and beg. Also from that link I understood that Marty already wrote all the music for the current game and the upcoming ones... Or am I reading that wrong? Because that'd be mind-boggling. -

Yes, they really screwed up there. But Mr. Williams signed off on it, it's not all their fault. -

Oh yes, that time of the year again. And I might as well say that I'm not listening to the version that LLL released. It is terribly flawed, as wonderful as the music is. I'm listening to a much improved version. One that I totally enjoyed putting together. Hook's 1991 album was a masterpiece, the complete score is even more of a masterpiece, because's there's simply much more music. More music that just adds so much, provides more excitement, more magic, more fun. I adore every second of it. Two plus hours of film music bliss... this is how I like to spend my evenings. -

Superbly powerful, haunting and emotional piece of work. I only know the woman from this, but she must have other great ones under her belt. Ever since seeing this film, its music has stayed with me. Nowadays such a film would get the most nondescript, dull score, you know, of the background type. Worth your money for the mighty cue 'Playing to Win' that evokes so much heroism it's unbelievable that a novice female composer could come up with this. The album is even more worth it for all the elegiac pieces found throughout. Because these are film music magic. Overflowing with emotion. This score effectively gives me the chills, and as a result of this I think the film is equally fantastic.
