  1. Have to agree. lots of great films and scores that year, Poltergeist, I thought, was also very good. But all the more significant that ET was able to stand above the others, really an incredible score and movie.
  2. Wow, incredible work on Battle of Yavin. (haven't looked at the other yet, but i'm sure equally incredible). You know what would be awesome, (and probably score you quiet a few views on youtube) is a video of you playing it. Some of these tougher pieces like battle of yavin would sure look great on a video. I would love to see that if you have time. Thanks for the great work!
  3. This is pretty interesting. Being 80, it's bound to happen that Spielberg will out live him. It will be so weird to see a Spielberg film not scored by JW. Will SS change his style? Will he get someone like GM who kind of sounds like JW, and just ask him to produce music with the same feel. I think it will be interesting to see. Although, it will be a tragedy and loss of a legend when JW goes. Sad to think about. I do think he will keep writing until he physically cannot though. Similar to Steve Jobs, or Jerry Goldsmith.
  4. I always thought Spielberg wasn't appreciated enough for his sense of comedy, and timing. This is a great example: "shovel some of this..." we chuckle.....sharks head appears we gasp....."Your going to need a bigger boat"...we laugh. Great stuff.
  5. I wish there was more behind the scenes footage of this, to know what was actually built, and what was matte. amazing stuff.
  6. Away Jurassic Park. Great example. Nothing sad about that first full view of the dinosaurs scene, yet sometimes brings me to tears. Great acting, directing, *music*, writing, fx. Great pic.
  7. Great, thanks. I always was wanting this feature.
  8. Off the top of my head, Schindler's list E.T. Some parts of indiana jones Edward Scissorhands Forrest Gump Back to the future And it's not so much what's actually happening on film (although that's the case for movies like ET, Schindler, Forrest), mostly the warm fuzzy feeling for me comes from the sheer craft, the creativity, the work basically that goes in. Curious what parts of TOD do you enjoy? Man i love when Indy says "Right....all of us", and he's bad ass standing in front of the thuggees ready to take them on. Cool part. Lots of cool parts in that movie, also my favorite of the series.
  9. Same here. Thanks for sharing. I've always loved this piece. I only wish there was a full concert arrangement of it, with a beginning middle and end, I used to love to play it, but once the orchestra comes in, the piano piece kind of dies out, and it changes in tone. I wish there was a whole concert piece built around just the stuff you put up, I love that piano work. Thanks for sharing!
  10. Thank you, yes, I have lots of 'favorite scores/themes', but the Indy series is the best, and my absolute favorite of all time is TOD. Love it. If no one has done it before, I might try to spear head an open source project of converting the score to Midi, that would be fun, and help me get a really deep understanding of the score. Doing it open source, and getting others to participate, we could do it more quickly. It's grueling typing in note by note. Wow, if you get his sig on the CD, can you upload a pic? Would love to see that. I do have a pretty clean version of that cue, I know the one you're talking about, and it does include an extra 2 Fanfares during Indy/shorty fighting. I'm not sure of it's original source, but it's pretty good (no SFX). I think though, that that particular portion is just a nicely timed loop. Just listened to it closely again, and there are 4 bars that are identical, which seems to me it was just a loop. I would have to listen closely to the rest of the cue to see if there are any other differences. I have a feeling the Concord release is the official session recording, and what's heard in the film is the same thing with some edits/loops to time it after maybe some last minute film editing. Similar to how Bug Tunnel Death Trap has a few extra bars to compensate for a quick scene of Willie's head with bugs crawling up it.
  11. Hi All, Just wondering if anybody has heard or seen anybody doing full midi adaptions of the TOD score. I've gone through some of the older threads of fan made mockups, and PMed a few members, but that hasn't panned out. It seems some have done a few measures to fill in unreleased score, but I haven't found any full cues. What i'm interested in doing using the full score to then create full midi scores, then tweak and play around with different sounds/tempos/etc using a sequencer with the midi files. Thanks for any advise, direction! Love this forum. -Russ
  12. That is nice. I also just noticed there's a nice subtle statement during "Short Round Escapes" @ 0:41.
  13. Ha, these pics, and captions gave me a good laugh. Thanks, and good find!
  14. Yeah, that's true. There are some nice, big statements of that motif there also. (I really love how it builds with the percussion at 2:57 of the OST) It kind of hinges off the Palace theme though during this cue, so to me, i don't really think of it as a statement of Mola Ram's theme.
  15. Actually not that I'm aware of, even in the total film score, the theme never really comes out in full form like other villain themes (Vadar, Home Alone, Lex Luthor, etc.) It's short and sweet, and that's it.
  16. two scores come to mind Flight of the navigator, and Starman.
  17. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1cfX4c4kR4 At 0:54 and 1:41.
  18. I believe "the temple of doom", which also appears on the broken bridge, is kind of the sacrifice, or 'kali-ma' theme. The actual Mola Ram theme is the 4 note motif heard during the beginning of the Mine Car Chase, and also a few times during the Broken Bridge. Both are great. Mola Ram's Theme at 0:11
  19. ooh, what about Dracula Wojciech Kilar version.. Man, personally I think one of the most overlooked and best scores / Theme's out there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KB92kcrwBo4
  20. Molar ram is nice. Bad guys from home alone. I like it more than its causin lex luthors theme.
  21. Just listened to it, sounds to me like Oboe (s) in the high register. Where in slave children's crusade? 1:30 to 1:34 Ah, yeah that's a nice section. I like the sound of unison strings octaves apart doing the theme like that.
  22. Just bumping this thread. Anybody been to a scoring session since this was last active in '03? Really wondering how i might get to see scoring session video from old scores, especially temple of doom. You would imagine someone would have had a camera and recording it way back then no?
  23. I'm not sure if these have been posted before, i found them really interesting. The sound is horrible, but if you can endure, there's some really good stuff in here, about scoring, music, etc. For example he jokingly says at one point, he thinks movies have too much music while he's writing the music for them. Sometimes i think he's a miracle worker, and these great themes just pour out of him, but when i hear him in interviews he describes just how hard he works. Part 1: Part 2: Part 3: more here: http://www.youtube.com/user/richirare/videos?feature=context-chv&sort=dd&page=1&view=0 Sorry, i'm getting an error when trying to post all 7 parts that I can't post that much media. Sorry if I should not post stuff like this, i found the interview very interesting.
