The Psycho Pianist got a reaction from Cerebral Cortex in The Composer's Thread
Thought I'd revive this thread having just seen the release of a short film narrated by Olivia Colman that me and @Max McGuire scored over the last few months. The process culminated in us recording the final soundtrack with a small string ensemble at Abbey Road Studio 1 (coincidentally on the same day as Gordy Haab recorded his Battlefront DLC with the LSO, and the day after Han Solo finished overdubs in the same room!) Below is the film - I really encourage anyone to watch it, it's only 8 or so minutes and has a very important message behind it! Also is a video with a bit of session footage from the recording (both me and Max conducted a half of the score each). Would appreciate any feedback! Thanks

On projects like this we work together for sure! We find that having two heads rather than one can help propel some ideas to something beyond what you might have come up with on your own. Of course, it does lead to the occasional moment where you feel like your own idea genuinely is better (!), but on the whole it probably also speeds up the process slightly - anything that may have been weird or on a tangent to the overall music arc has usually already been corrected at the source rather than much further on

That's of course not to say that you don't occasionally end up with other scenarios though...

Was a 3 hour session but in actuality it only took about 2 and a half!

Posting the clip with the orchestrated "searching" theme again just for anyone who's missed it, since I'm seeing the videos that were posted on the other page are blocked/taken down. This one should stick since it's an official Tonight Show clip, but not sure if it's available outside the US.

The Psycho Pianist reacted to Omen II in 'A Celebration of John Williams in Concert' - Royal Albert Hall, October 26, 2018 (CONDUCTED BY DIRK BROSSÉ)
I went to watch the LSO just yesterday at the Barbican, playing Richard Strauss's Alpensinfonie amongst other things.  There were five members of the orchestra actually performing yesterday who have been in the LSO for 35 years or more and therefore might have played on Return of the Jedi and possibly even The Empire Strikes Back (I cannot say for certain only because I have never seen player listings for either of those scores).

The current longest-serving LSO member is first violin Colin Renwick, who I know definitely played on Raiders of the Lost Ark because his name is listed in the booklet.  The next longest-serving member is sub-leader Lennox Mackenzie, who joined the LSO in 1980 and shared the front desk yesterday with leader Roman Simovic.  Two of the cellists have also been with the LSO since the early 1980s, Jennifer Brown and Noel Bradshaw, as has double bass player Patrick Laurence.  All five were playing in yesterday evening's concert.  Another long-serving violinist, Nigel Broadbent, retired only recently.

With regard to the Star Wars prequel scores, roughly thirty-five or so of the LSO members have been with the orchestra for twenty years or more and would therefore have played for John Williams on all three of those scores in all likelihood.  Make no mistake, John Williams will recognise a significant number of the LSO musicians when he comes to conduct the orchestra in October, god willing.  I am happy to list some more of them if anyone is interested.

EDIT: I took this photo yesterday.  Lennox Mackenzie is the gentleman immediately to the left of conductor Daniel Harding on the podium.  Noel Bradshaw is the cellist with the white hair a couple behind him, while Jennifer Brown is the cellist with the short hair just to the left of him and slightly further forward.

I've always loved the string line from 1:54-2:15 on this track from Philosopher's Stone. So much so that one day I had to transcribe it.

I think Zimmer should've gotten a look in. After all, Zimmer noodling on his own on the piano is literally the title of this film.

Does anyone else hear this weird tapping noise all over the album?  Like at 1:17 in "Deciding to Publish"?  It's really obnoxiously loud.  That's not intentional, is it?  It doesn't sound like studio sounds or seem to correspond to any instrument playing, but maybe I am being naive.  It seems to be in almost every track.  Seems like they must have goofed badly when mastering this album to let that into it.

The Psycho Pianist got a reaction from Will in HPWW Christmas - new LSO Abbey Road HP arrangements?
Just came across this article on the Orlando Sentinel about the new Wizarding World Christmas (Harry Potter area Christmas event) at Universal Orlando, and it specifically mentions new arrangements "freshly recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road." There is video from the press viewing also.

Anyone know anything more about this - given it's written off of a press release/event I would imagine it's fairly accurate info as Universal surely wouldn't plug it so strongly if not?

FCL just announced CE3K will be joining the other JW scores in being screened with a live orchestra. Personally I think this may be one of the highlights, and surely one of the most testing on the orchestra! No dates announced yet but presuming they will follow in due course.
