  1. Yes, the HP1 OST was very well assembled, and very clever in taking the ideal form of each piece, using the full range of recorded material. The complete score does take a long time to get through, but I love the whole thing, so I always listen to that. I often break down longer scores into multiple listening sessions. It makes it easier to appreciate each cue or group of cues anyway, when you don't OD on the whole thing at once.
  2. Cool, thank you for the details, I was always planning to put together a shorter assembly based on your suggestions. I like the score a lot but I've been discouraged from listening to it just because it's so repetitive. I want to fix that so I can enjoy it again!
  3. Well he does have a point there. Should we assume this scene is actually in black and white?
  4. Interesting thoughts. I think there are some points that sync up well, mainly the moment at 0:40 where the screen goes dark as the first cue ends, and the first few seconds afterward that are mysterious, then grand, as the students enter the great hall. But that could be a case of footage edited to fit the music. And the rest of it after that point has more of a montage feel, where you could cut any shots in there that you wanted. What a classic teaser, I love how they left out dialogue and even sound effects in many of the shots and let Williams do the talking.
  5. How come you left out Overture and La Puntura Della Morte? Which L'Inferno Bianco did you choose?
  6. Were these always intended to play right after each other like they do in the LLL track? Just a case of one piece of music divided into two cues for recording?
  7. It may be the XTC album I reach for the least often, even though I still like the whole thing. Sometimes it's more interesting than it is enjoyable. The track I shared is a good example, it doesn't completely come together as a song, but the production fascinates me, and probably couldn't have happened at any moment in time except 1984.
  8. That's amazing!! Don't think I've heard it before. I tried to listen to the complete Stax set but there was sooooo much of it haha. Hoping to visit Stax one of these days. The time has come:
  9. This was so much fun! Thanks to everyone who joined, and Thor for bringing his moderator skills and making sure everyone got to shine! There was a really nice upbeat vibe to the whole thing. A bit of a JWFan lovefest.
  10. I never noticed this Ludlow before! In "Dance of the Earth", from Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. Can be heard at 0:48 of the above video. The first few seconds of it sound the most like Williams, then it evolves a bit.
  11. Rogue One vs. Williams poll results are what separates the JWMen from the JWBoys. lol
  12. Epic poll dude! You must be very proud. The hierarchy is always Williams > Powell > Göransson. Though Parting Ways vs Open the Door was tough. Listening to Open the Door again, it struck me that Göransson fundamentally understands the Force theme, as opposed to other people I could mention.
  13. Yeah, the Academy tend to wear their subjectivity on their sleeve these days.
  14. If nominating Soul means changing the rules, then I can see the frustration, but I'd consider it a good change. This music deserves consideration. The way composing duties were split was an inspired choice. And Batiste provided plenty of score, as well as source music, plus the source music played an unusually important role in this film, and often blurred the lines between source and score. For Soul to be disqualified would, to me, feel like a score that deserved recognition was being overlooked on a technicality. If they do allow it, I would hope it's a rule change and not a single exception, first of all because it's only fair, and secondly because I think this type of outside-the-box thinking should be encouraged when it comes to film scores.
  15. That's okay with me, as long as it makes Oomoog ecstatic.
  16. Yeah it's great to see different sides of these characters/actors that wouldn't fit into your standard Avengers movie.
  17. Fun, as in I had fun watching it. Some parts were funny, yes. I mean the retro thing is a little too cutesy but it turned out the characters worked well in that setting. I liked the upbeat, chipper tone, it was refreshing. I liked all the jokes about Vision trying to appear human, pretty relatable for some of us, LOL!
