  1. In the case of HP1 I don't think the highlights could possibly fit on the album, and that's one of his better OST arrangements. And I agree that Williams is the best example of a composer whose scores benefit from expansion. He rarely repeats himself within a single score... he writes endless variations on his themes, and they're all fascinating to hear. Just look at the Force theme, or Rey's theme, he used them ad nauseum but never ran out of ideas. Another good example is Attack of the Clones. The OST has just about all the big highlights, but those highlights breathe better when the score is expanded.
  2. Cool! Thanks for sharing, that's an interesting technique. Not sure if it's the same thing or not. Here's a good example, 3:38 of TRoS track 1:
  3. I love those slimy strings he likes to layer behind the theme, all the way from RotJ to TRoS. It's so effective at making you feel a sense of dread whenever Palpy appears. Anyone with musical vocabs want to explain this technique? It seems like there must be a tradition for this kind of writing, that Williams was tapping into.
  4. No, I've always thought it was a bit overrated. I love the Hook score but Ultimate War is one of my least favorite parts. It does have its place in the score structure though, providing a climax that gives an opportunity to hear a lot of the themes in action mode, so that's cool.
  5. Haha no I'm less attuned to those things. Being able to pick that out must be a gift and a curse!
  6. More than one... when this came out, there were a lot of people who thought it sounded great.
  7. Jay, reading your description you would think this is an exciting release... I feel like you should qualify it
  8. I guess it does sound kind of slick, or "soft" to me. Is it a reverb thing? Not sure if I'm describing it right. I don't have a big problem with it though.
  9. I think the only way that would happen is if Ian Fraser posts them on his Soundcloud.
  10. Revisionist bullshit! And won't save the movie. Heck... wasn't this the same guy that made the original cut?
  11. Yes, for an ideal listening experience, I think the album inserts should be treated consistently... either all of them edited into their respective cues as they were intended, or else all of them left out. You could make a case for either. Personally I hope to edit all of them into their respective tracks. Otherwise there's nothing wrong with it that I know of. I'm cool with the two versions of 6m3 back to back.
  12. Spielberg should have considered the CD, lol. Mike does the best he can, I know. I can't help wishing that if things were going to be this complicated for even us superfans to figure out, that all the material was carefully documented in the liner notes so it would be easy to decode.
  13. But not "Before the Escape", the extension he wrote for another cue. It doesn't make logical sense, other than the "Mike couldn't get this stuff on there any other way" perspective.
  14. Oh weird. Looks like I picked the wrong week to think I was done with my edit.
  15. I need to buy this now that I finally saw the film. And I will be happy not to have the OST.
