  1. Thanks for your analysis, I'll listen later while reading. I LOVE this track, it's one of the ones I listen to most on its own, apart from the rest of the score. I especially like the Anthem of Evil stuff early on, and I love the buildup to the shot of Rey in the film reacting to the news. The music gives you a feeling of horror, that SOMETHING'S WRONG! in that moment. Also the mention of prominent harp as a TROS trademark is spot on, that's another thing I love about this entire score. When will Sith lords stop saying to join them though it never works... already didn't work in the last movie! I guess Kylo didn't watch that one.
  2. Yeah, and that was pretty refreshing, but then the second film came along and just wanted to steer the whole thing over into being the most prequely prequel it could be. Just lol at thinking people needed to hear the origin of Nagini.
  3. ...the Crimes of Grindelwald. (sorry!!!) Prequelitis. Surprisingly hard to avoid. Star Wars, LotR, HP, it finds them all eventually.
  4. Can anyone please NOT split these up and label them all with the track titles? You have better things to do!
  5. I find something to enjoy in each of the scores. Same with the movies. After this many years have passed, might as well just return to whichever parts of the series are rewarding for you.
  6. Debating the relative merits of the HP films, and the relative merits of their scores, is one of those tedious traditions that's somehow unavoidable. We all have our opinions on which are good and which are complete shit, myself included, but on the whole I'm a big fan of the films and scores. It would be nice if we could come up with a way to talk about them without having to debate their relative merits all the time. I'm not sure what that would look like, though. The Harry Potter Film Series Lovefest thread? The Harry Potter No Comparisons thread? A series of individual threads? It might just be a lost cause, something we're doomed to repeat until we die.
  7. I like it as it is, but I've never heard it any other way. The first track feels like a musical "prologue" much like Williams' OST tracks of that name on the OSTs of Hook or HP1. I don't feel they're similar enough to be repetitive.
  8. We'll be better off when we have all-virtual actors who don't have personal lives, or wrong opinions.
  9. End of film 1, I thought... OH NO NOT JOHNNY DEPP!!! Film 2, I thought... surprised they kept Johnny Depp in spite of controversy. But he was actually good! And now... WTF!!! But I never wanted Grindlewald to be in these, so it would be awfully nice if they just left out the character altogether. That might make too much sense though. Johnny Depp should have written a note saying he refused to work with JK Rowling after her own controversies. LOL! I'm cancelled, you're cancelled, everybody's cancelled.
  10. Can't wait for Nov 20, I'm currently clearing my schedule with a machete! The cover is fine but I won't use it. Not a big enough fan of the movie. Speaking of which, it really is incredible that this is happening given that the film itself is a potential embarrassment for Disney. Thank you, soundtrack gods!! Kinda nice not to have to worry about ordering the CD, honestly.
  11. I'm curious if he's writing anything without a commission, "just for fun". I don't know his process, though... maybe some of his concert works have started out this way?
  12. Not everyone should be welcomed to the forum. There have to be limits.
  13. Don't want them to FIND OUT I'm a weirdo, prematurely!
  14. This is the clue we need to unravel the hisstory of the synth!
  15. What a weird situation. Could Sony really have made their money back over such a short window?
  16. I just listened to this score for the first time last night and LOVED IT!!!! The off-the-wall spooky, mischievous cartoon sound combined with Horner's usual sensibilities worked wonderfully. What a FUN score to listen to. And I was very happy with the listening experience of the first disc. Putting the Casper theme material together at the end, followed by the teaser, turned out to be a good approach. Shame that disc 1 couldn't close out with Casper's Lullaby. But I'm looking forward to giving this some more listens. It's perfect for Halloween, but also has a bit of a Christmas feel as well, probably from the sleigh bells, the chorus, and the warm, emotional scoring in some parts. I also caught Cocoon vibes, but found it more engaging than that score (sorry, I know Cocoon is big around here). And it's one of the nicer-looking releases I've bought lately. The front cover, spine, and disc art all looks fantastic.
  17. We'll just have to disagree my friend. I certainly do enjoy my deluxe CD and the lavish presentation DG gave to that version, and in terms of the project as a whole, it's great that it's possible to have such a splashy new Williams release that also delivers the goods musically. Plus the live support given to it... it was exciting to get to hear so many of the pieces live at Tanglewood, and that some were featured in the landmark Vienna concert.
  18. I'm glad they're doing vinyls, but it's disrespectful to the fans that they try and gouge us with tracks spread over all these different products when they could have put out a single vinyl set, like the deluxe CD, with all the tracks in one place. In fact, I probably would have bought the vinyl AND the CD if they'd done it right.
  19. Not everyone is born a JWFan. We're special all right. The rare breed!
  20. Maybe it would make sense to use the OST track in the main program of my edit, then. I guess we have to assume that the album intro was written with the intention that it would be used the way it ended up on the OST, seguing into that edited material, instead of seguing into the opening of "Driving Away from Trouble"? Anyone else figured out a good way to add "Before the Escape" back in?
