  1. Great project! Looks very thorough, although other members here may have more to contribute. I think it would make sense to include all Williams' film scores in the album section, regardless of the conductor (I'm referring to your treatment of Chamber of Secrets). If necessary you could say "All selections conducted by John Williams, except where indicated" and make a note next to those scores that he did not conduct.
  2. Great to read everyone's reports Sounds like a wonderful concert! Lucas should have joined Spielberg onstage!
  3. A template would be very nice, and help people avoid having to research too much about editing a wiki, which is a daunting first step. Of course, different film scores might require different treatments; for instance, there are some that we wouldn't have cue lists for. Maybe the template should be very thorough, and then users can delete elements that they don't need. I love how you included details of all the track listings of the various releases for Poltergeist. It's very nice-looking, but I wonder if we should be using the track listing template we imported from Wikipedia. See my Chamber of Secrets page for a basic example. Note that not all the features for track lists are imported thus far, though.
  4. Well, my guess would be that the process went something like this: WB wanted more HP money WB already had the rights to the Magical Creatures and Quidditch books, from back when they purchased the rights to the entire series WB decided to proceed with a film based on the Magical Creatures book, as they didn't have a lot of other options WB reached out to JK Rowling to see if she would like to be involved in some capacity JKR realized the film would happen no matter what, and decided to protect it as best she could by signing on as screenwriter Whatever happened, I feel convinced that WB is in it for $$$ and JKR is in it because it's her baby.
  5. Office Space contains a lot of food for thought regarding the experience of working in an office, staring at a computer all day, corporate "culture," work/life balance, etc. I find myself thinking about the ending a lot when I get sick of working on the computer and start to crave a little variety.
  6. Which one is it that has all the 80s montage sequences? Rocky 4, right?
  7. I've been meaning to marathon all the Rocky movies for a while, although I'll probably rent them. Only seen the first one so far.
  8. Lol, those are great graphics though. Happy birthday Hans!
  9. They'd be nice to have for sure. Although, if you go at that rate many of the remaining films may be released by the time you're done anyway. The Japanese cases look great, but honestly I think I'd rather have lush artwork that's more in line with the look of the films themselves, like so: I could do without all the extra banners and logos, but still a very nice presentation.
  10. Well it's NOASIA for me I'm afraid. I want so many of those, it would add up real fast! Wish they'd release them quicker here in the US, but I'll just have to be patient! On a related note, last year I saw a lot of the Ghibli films I hadn't seen before, and I really liked Kiki's Delivery Service and Porco Rosso. I look forward to getting those on Blu Ray one day.
  11. I would love to own all of the Japanese releases, but aren't they about a hundred bucks each?
  12. Well, it was just a matter of time until WB found some way to make more HP films. No way were they ever going to leave well enough alone. This feels like a pretty desperate move on their part, and very unnecessary. Still, Rowling's involvement means there's a chance it could be worthwhile, and with her role as screenwriter it sounds like she might even be more involved than she was on the HP films. Hopefully this will lend some degree of quality control to the proceedings. I like the idea of magical creatures as subject matter, and I'm glad they aren't trying to make direct sequels or prequels to the main storyline. That way if it ends up being a travesty, at least it won't ruin the other movies! I do have some trepidation at the idea that this will be a SERIES, and not just a one-off. But given the fact they were due to keep milking the series in some way, it's not the worst thing that could happen, so I'll reserve judgment for now.
  13. Williams is the only reason I'll see the Book Thief, and his music ensured that I saw War Horse, Lincoln, and Tintin. Of course, the only one of those I had no interest in otherwise was Tintin, which turned out to be better than it looked in the trailer.
  14. Go get 'em Uni! It's actually a fun stage of the project to work on, where a lot of big scores don't even have their own pages yet. Gives you a lot of freedom to work on the particular scores that interest you.
  15. I watched the film before hearing the OST, so that was when I first noticed Azog's theme. Thorin's was one that I started to recognize from listening to the OST, without knowing exactly what it represented. I only just recently read through a guide that somebody had linked here, and learned all the themes, and it's really opened up the score for me and helped me enjoy it even more.
  16. Or, before you start fussing about PJ, you could listen to Bilbo's fussy theme! It could be a great outlet. Well, I figured someone would point that out, and it's valid, but I also didn't pick out very many themes as easily on the album as I did in LotR, either, without having read about them and knowing what to look for. I think even if all the album material had ended up in the film, we still wouldn't have a lot of themes that would be obvious to plain old regular people who saw the movie just a couple of times. And I think it's just a show of restraint on Shore's part that is responsible for this, because some of the new themes are really solid. You get the feeling they could come into their own later on, if Shore wanted them too, just like the Gondor theme did in RotK. Bilbo's fussy theme was the one that was most obvious to me on album, though. Radagast too, except it might not have been obvious that it was a "theme" since it's only prominent for a brief portion of the album.
  17. As much as I disliked hearing the tracked music and such, just like most people here did, I admit that it was probably more satisfying for people that don't know any better. I'd like to think Shore's new themes could have made an impact similar to what the Shire theme, Fellowship theme, etc did in FotR, but I didn't pick up on any of the new themes just from my two viewings in the theater, other than Misty Mountains, and Azog's theme (which I did not recognize at the time as being based on a LotR theme). Shore was less overt with most of his new themes, and now that I've listened to the soundtrack over and over and read about the themes online, I know and love many of them. But on the whole, they just don't stick out in the film unless you've made an extra effort to consider them. Many of the renditions of the shire theme were syrupy sweet in FotR, and the Fellowship theme blasted loud and clear during lots of heroic scenes, so that you couldn't help noticing them. There were lots of other, more subtle themes that you wouldn't likely identify after just a few viewings, but there were also those obvious, accessible ones that you could easily latch onto.
  18. This project is much needed, but will take time to find its footing. There's no use giving up on it just because the small number of initial contributors haven't had time to expand it much so far. Every little bit helps, and it will only gradually become established as a resource, but once that begins to happen I would expect it to get more exposure and thus a lot more people will begin to add to it.
  19. I thought Newell handled the Yule Ball and all the scenes surrounding it very deftly. And Voldemort's big scene at the end was just perfect - his best scene in all the films, IMO. I do think the score suffered from having to directly follow PoA! It always takes a little while to adjust to the GoF score if you're watching all the films in order.
  20. All music, from what I understand. Just giving up soundtracks for a week wouldn't be that much of a challenge if I could still listen to other music.
  21. Well, if it's still on, I'm doing it! I listened all the way through Goblet of Fire and Matrix Reloaded yesterday, so I'm as ready as I'll ever be.
