    The wraiths came across as very incompetent in FotR, but they looked and sounded great. I'm sure glad they weren't CGI!

    Really? which ones? I've only played the RotK game, but it does have narration by McKellen that is not in the films. It sounds like material that was recorded exclusively for the game, though, and in many cases seems to be based on dialogue from the films.

    I can only assume Williams is less proud of having to take such an approach and doesn't feel that reusing material lives up to his standards. I'm not very familiar with what happened behind the scenes with Home Alone 2, so I can't comment much on that instance, but I think he would prefer to be able tackle all his film projects wholeheartedly and avoid a lot of repetition. Home Alone 2 and Chamber of Secrets may be exceptions to this, but for most sequels he seems to try very hard to bring something substantially new to the table. For instance, Lost World used very little material or themes from Jurassic Park, Azkaban was almost all new and had a major shift in tone, Return of the Jedi featured chorus prominently where SW and ESB had almost none, and the films in the Indy trilogy all had completely separate themes, apart from the main theme (and the one Ark theme cameo in LC).

    I have to wonder if one of the reasons for Ross' credit, which he says Williams "insisted on," was that Williams wanted some indication to listeners that it wasn't a typical full-blown Williams score. I imagine Williams takes great pride in composing his scores from start to finish and might have wanted to provide some kind of explanation for the reused material.

    Very similar setlist to the Atlanta concert I attended last year (which also had Spielberg present for the second half). Also, at that concert I had hoped he'd premiere something from Lincoln, but no such luck.

    As always, I'd be happy to be pleasantly surprised when the film comes out. But I gave both Argo and Man of Steel a good chance, and just didn't get into either one. I can appreciate that Affleck's casting is based on the critical reappraisal he's enjoying thanks to Argo, and that they're going for an acclaimed actor. It's a good line of thinking, I just won't get my hopes up that the result will speak to my own tastes.

    Hate it, I was never a fan to start with, and then I was super bored by Argo. Maybe the movie will change my mind, but for that to happen I would probably have to like Man of Steel 2 better than Man of Steel 1.

    The nice thing about having everything is you can pick what cues you want to hear at any given time. Sometimes I'll just listen to all my 4 and 5-starred tracks from the Star Wars prequels, or just the Children's Suite, etc. With a lot of longer scores, if I feel like hearing the whole thing I'll listen to a few tracks a day until I'm done, or go for a walk and listen to it.

    Considering we aren't guaranteed to get a CR for AUJ, and considering how much content we got on the OST might be left off of it even if there is, I'm glad we got two discs. But like Jason says, a 1-disc standard edition and 2-disc SE would have made more sense. Bloodboal's videos have really highlighted just how different the OST is from the film. I imagine if you bought it not understanding the process of film scoring and not being very familiar with the LotR scores, and just hoping to hear various moments from the film, you'd be pretty disappointed - even though we hardcore fans have the exact opposite reaction.

    So it sounds like this is a case of sampling, where he wrote music with the intention of it being played over those beats? It sounds cool in the film, but the beats used aren't so distinctive that I'd miss them much.

    Yes, at least they were able to represent those cues with the original material, even if they couldn't include the film versions. I don't remember those cues from the films, but it doesn't sound like it will be a big loss.

    Personally I liked Radagast, he was something fresh and new among a lot of homages and similarities to the original LotR films.

    Looking forward to this! It's great that they interviewed Juno Reactor as well as Don Davis. Should be very enlightening. It's good of them to be up front about the two missing tracks. Are those available anywhere else?

    Some members have been able to catch Williams on the way into or out of a concert and get an autograph. Unfortunately there's no guarantee, but it's certainly worth a try! If there are other members who have seen him in Chicago, perhaps they could give advice on where you could try waiting to meet him.
